Hey y'all, I have a three-year-old, 30-lb corgi/lab tripawd named Jackson who is the absolute best! He loves being outdoors and hanging out with me and my husband. He's been a tripawd for most of his life and can go for mile-long walks with no issue. Here's my question though:
We're going camping in a few weeks and want to bring him. I've been trying to find a backpack (like maybe one meant for carrying a toddler) that I can put him in when he gets tired while hiking. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations? Thanks!
I've seen them, but not for dogs as big as 30 pound. Try a google search for Dog Carriers.
What kind of hiking are you doing? Would a dog stroller work? They make them now with big wheels that can go over moderately rough terrain. Here is a link to strollers in the Gear Blog if you are interested.

Kackso ! We'd love to hear more about you AND see pictures!!
One of the techie geniuses will jave to find the "link", but, if I recall correctly, there was a tripawd named Riley here who went hiking in a cusomized "backpack".
Glad you jave a plan for not letting him over do it.
Best wishes to all!

Thank you! I've been looking but haven't found a carrier that looks sturdy enough. That's kind of why I started looking at the toddler backpacks at REI. I'll take a look at the strollers though. That might be a good option.

Aw, thank you! Our little guy was actually featured on the Tripawds blog last year 🙂 We're very proud. I'll poke around and see if I can find that link you were referring to. I'll keep you guys updated!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Oh, now I remember Jackson! He is a cutie.Â
Last October I adopted my second Tripawd, a little pug mix named Elly. She was hit by a car at 7 months old and lost her right rear leg.
She is only 15 pounds though, and my first Tripawd, a pug named Maggie was about 17 lbs.
We have this stroller- which we originally got for my aging pug Tani. We also have this stroller which we got originally for Tri-pug Maggie. I would recommend something like the first one. The downside is the pugs can't load up themselves, but that is outweighed by the ease of pushing and steering it. I often had about 30 lbs of pugs in the stroller when I had my old girl Tani and her brother Obie who was recovering from knee surgery (twice!). A downside with the air filled tires, at least on mine, is that we have some nasty stickers that punctured the tires. I ended up getting puncture resistant tubes and lining the tires with puncture resistant strips.
I have also modified both strollers to fit my needs- I can dig up pictures if you would like.

Same to you! Jackson is doing really well. He and his sister (a 4-legged pittie mix) are getting along better than ever. We also now live in a place with our own backyard so he gets to be outside allllll the time.

Hey Devin! Welcome! It's good to see you and Jackson here.
You'd be amazed at the quality of the newer strollers out there, companies are making ones strong enough for Rotties now. If you find one you like let us know, we'd love to hear about it.
And keep in touch, we adore that boy!
