Hi,

I subscribe to a media resource outlet and a request for a Pet Hero story just came in. Here are the details:

Summary: HERO PETS

Name: Donna Banks (anonymous)

Email: query-z9p@helpareporter.com

Deadline: 12:00 AM EST - 21 February

Query:
I am on assignment to write a feature story on hero pets for a
major publisher. Dogs and cats are fine, but also interested in
other pets (pigs, rabbits, birds, etc). Incident should be recent
(within the last two years). Pet and owner should still be alive.
Will need photo. Please--send me your stories! Thank you, DGBanks

Would be great to have a featured story of one of our Tripawd Heroes!

Interesting, thanks for posting this. It might help if they defined their meaning of what constitutes a hero!

Yes - is Sid a hero because he works as a therapy dog, and greyhound ambassador at Meet & Greets, or do they need 'my dog saved the family from a fire' type heroes?

Sid is a hero in our book! As are most tripawds... we suggest anyone who believes there dog is heroic contact the author. Then report back here if you get any feedback on what constitutes a hero.

Jerry was certainly hero, but alas, he does not qualify in his Spirit form.

I'm emailing the author to ask what kinds of stories she's looking for. Stay posted!

I got a quick answer from the author. Here's what she's looking for:

I can't use therapy or other service animals if their heroic action reflects their training. If it is beyond what they were trained to do, then yes. I'm looking for a range of animals (not just dogs), and a variety of experiences. It might be the animal stopped a burglary, got owners out of the house because of carbon monoxide poisoning, prevented an attack of some kind, noticed someone was choking or having a seizure and got help, etc. Anything that might have had a bad--even deadly--outcome had it not been for the intervention of the animal.

Here's what I need:

  • The story should be recent (last year or two); please send dates.
  • The story should be true.
  • The animal and key parties involved should still be living.
  • The story should not have received a lot of publicity, especially national publications or TV shows; some local publicity is fine, including local awards.
  • The owners or parties involved should be available for a phone interview.
  • Pictures.

I'll put in a word about our hero tripawds!

Okay, not to be too rude...but if that's the kind of story that is wanted - isn't that what Google is for?

Seriously!....once Isabelle prevented me from getting in the house, when she jammed the pantry door into the back door because after busting in, she & the cats ate 3lbs of freeze dried lamb, half a bag of lamb lung and a variety of other tasty tidbits. She opened a box of baby food brown rice cereal & licked it into cement on the Tabriz carpet I practically carried on my back from Iran, through Canada & across the border.... So,  I'm sure burglars couldn't get in either....actually, I was so irritated (I almost seized!), because I had to use a ladder to get to the deck, so it's likely she prevented an attack too, hmm... and it's true, and the culprits made it out alive....and she thought it was quite heroic (& was sooo proud). Maybe this qualifies...........

That was mean, but really, there are how many dogs on this website who are truly heroic everyday???

What a hilarious story about Isabelle!! Love it.

This request came from a service that puts media in touch with people. They send emails with interesting requests for blogs, TV shows, radio, magazines, authors, etc. covering lots of different topics. It puts people wanting stories in touch with people with stories/contacts. Saves a ton of time googling and mutually beneficial!
