Read an article about an easy to do poo digester (you put a hole in the ground, some rocks, and some starter bacteria and its supposed to 'digest' the poo like a sand mount.

Anyone have any real world experience?  I go through about 30lbs of dog food every two weeks (5 dogs) so I need to find out the rate of digestion/composting.

We used a "Doggie Doolie" many years ago when we lived in Northern California, where the soil was extremely rich and always moist. Even with one 75 pound dog who ate one 30 pound bag of food a month, the digestive enzymes still didn't really do the trick and break down the poo fast enough. It could of course depend on what kind of enzymes you use.

There is one member here, Spirit Calpurnia, whose Mom has 22 huskies. You might want to PM her and ask her how they take care of all that poo.

I'm sorry, but I just started laughing when I read the title of this topic. All I could think of was , "Well, Murphy used to be a backyard pooh digester.". The seven months on a leash has cured that. So did the pumpkin in Gus' food dish.

Kathi

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
