I just have to share this. As most of you know, Zeus has been exhibiting pain/whining when we pick him up and sometimes when he stands up to "circle". The vet believes it is a muscle "tweak". I cannot stand to see him uncomfortable and it does not seem to be getting any better, even with pain meds, moist heat and our massages. These last few days I have been humbled. I have literally been on my knees with tears in my eyes asking God to please guide us on how to help him. We are new to this area, have no family or other support here and are unfamiliar with the resources here other than what is listed in the phone book. Unfortunately it is a small town and I have been unable to find any options for veterinary alternative/holistic care options.
This morning our copier reps (father and son team) came into work to deliver bagles and Christmas treats. Upon hearing their voices Zeus (normally VERY quite in his crate) did his "happy" hello bark a couple of times, which of course led to a discussion on why my dog is at work with me.
Turns out these guys are HUGE dog lovers and very into dog training. They gave me the name of a local trainer who has a vet chiropractor come to her facility once a month. They also gave me the name of a local pet store that is run by a pet dietician and the name of a local vet that offers acupuncture. I was almost crying with excitement.
Maybe this is a turning point for us!? I don't think they quite understood how serious I was when I told them they are an answer to my prayers.
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

how wonderful is that!!! we have always 'beat the drum' for acupuncture - it helped both of our girls so very much. seems like prayers are answered for zeus and definitely sounds like you are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. yippee.
charon & spirit gayle
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
Those guys are your Christmas angels for sure!
We too advocate for acupuncture, it worked wonders for me! Do try acupuncture before the chiro, but just make sure that you're working with a licensed vet who is trained in this medicine, so that Zeus gets the full benefit of the treatments. We have a post about it here (http://tripawds.....-tripawds/).
Hugs to you and Zeus!

Isn't this wonderful! I love it when we get direct answers to our prayers 🙂 I am super happy for you guys, I hear that accupunture is perfect for this type of thing. We will be doing it too, in just a couple of more months 🙂

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us. Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.
Hooray for Christmas angels.
Merry Christmas to you and Zeus,
Jackie, Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. TATE ~ Forever in our hearts.
What a wonderful gift! Sometimes gifts come in the most unusual ways! I believe this is a turning point!
Big shout out to copier reps!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Im just catching up with your problem. No idea if this will help, but our dog didn't turn the corner until we tried a drug called methocarbomal. It was a muscle relaxer. My vet said a lot of amputees have muscle pain from adjusting their gate and stance. Something to check in to!
Levi was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 7-7-11
Ampuversary 10-14-11
Lung Mets Discovered 1-4-12. Chemo seemed to not be working so we switched to Artemisinin and other supplements. In May, Levi developed a sinus infection and started having seizures. The cancer had moved to his brain. We let him go 6-26-12.
I know this seems to contradictory, but Sammy improved most when we weened him from the pain meds. I think he was very susceptable to their effects and became depressed, lethargic and confused.
Just a thought ... did anyone else experience that?
Beth, Rick and Spirit Sammy
Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.
We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.
Thanks everyone. I am THRILLED to report that Zeus had a GREAT day yesterday. He still cries a little when we lift him into the car or up the steps but last night he was like a different dog. He was following us around the kitchen while I cooked and when Greg asked him if he wanted to go out he literally bounded and bounced all the way to the door and out through the yard. Then, and this is the most special part to me, he came in and circled!! You see, we call him Circle Dog. When you are eating he circles the table, when you give him a treat he circles your legs and when he is excited, he "dances" in a little circle. After Greg took him out, he came back through the door and down the hall and stopped and did a new, somewhat altered, circle dance. Of course I sobbed (good tears)! Here's hoping today is even better!
Thanks again for all the support!!!!

Hooray for Circle Dog being back! It's so great to see them getting back to their old selves - even if it's a slightly adapted version!
