We had voles under the snow in the back yard this year. Ollie was determined to find them.

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
ELLY! Look what you started! A whole lot of cjteness gping on arpund here!!
Ollie clearly has an excellent nose and great snow shovel paws!
Squirrel? School? Yeah, Ollie has a point!!! Maybe spell it.
And Yoda's squirrel appears to be eating the nuts he hid away at a nuclear plant! Scary!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
OMG ... this is so awesome! Look at little Elly .... so dainty and cautious in her approach. And Meg ... you're a bit like Jasper - nose deep in there! And Ollie ... well, that's more like Shelby's speed!
We love "hunting" gophers around here ...or whatever is moving around in those holes!
Shelby Lynne; Jack Russell/Shiba Inu mix. Proud member of the April Angels of 2014.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Elly, you naturally know how to monitor gophers. WARNING!! Do not listen to Meg. She may be a star with much of the British wildlife but she does not know what she is talking about when it comes to gophers. Meg is playing a trick on you. Please do not stick your nose into a gopher hole! Gophers have teeth. Big, ugly, nasty, yellow rodent teeth. They can bite if they feel cornered or scared.
You have a fantastic focus. Tripawd Kitty Mona says "Meg loves adventure and excitement. Well, so do I, but I say safety first." Mona suggests can take a closeup video of your gopher monitoring from outside of the hole with a Go-pro mounted on your head, back or chest!

I think Elly would lose her razor sharp focus if I attached a camera to her!
She is really weird about having things around her head or touching her back, we have an elaborate routine just to get her into her harness. She hates when her leash drapes across her back- she kind of freaks out actually, I can't imagine what she would do if I added the GoPro!
I hung my GoPro from Obie's harness on a walk once, he didn't mind at all. However watching the footage was quite nauseating

Ruby, Staffy, born June 2022, became a Tripawd, 23 November 2023, adopted 12 January 2024.
Also Angel Tripawd Meg (aka The Megastar), who died in April 2023, aged 14, after seven glorious years on three, and Angel Staffies Pie and Bille. In the pawprints of giants...
That Megstar is so adorable! I do see a mischievous twinkle in her eye though.
Yes, Mona is a cat. And what do cats catch? Rodents. Many rodents. Well, Mona doesn't because she says "Safety first" and she thinks rodents are full of fleas and have nasty, yellow teeth and bad breath. She leaves the rodent catching work to her brother Eli and she avoids them at all costs.
Back to the gophers, Mona asked me to pass on this photo taken of a gopher in Torrington, Saskatchewan in Canada. We have very mean gophers.
So, sweet dear Elly, be very careful...
Love Meg's picture always......great avatar picture!
Kitty Mona! BRILLIANT find!!!
Our group sure does put the fun in dysFUNctional! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Elly says 'thanks for all the suggestions!'
Luckily we don't have to worry about the muddy paws- the only gophers are at the park so she either leaves the mud walking home or wipes it off her feet in the truck.
Don't worry Mona, she still does not seem interested in tangling with the creatures- still just monitoring when they are visible, or when she finds an open hole.
She is taking Gator's advice to dig and is working toward the the 'Meg burrow' position, but she waits to dig until the gopher has back filled the hole- maybe she wants to give them a chance? She is also working on her 'nose dozer' skills.

OH ELLY, ELLY, ELLY!!! I absolutely ADORE you!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 You are THE cutest Gopher Monitor evvver!!! And a very kind one too! 🙂
I have no doubt that you and your little baby gopher buddy have a game going that only you two understand! I just hope this baby gopher doesn't try and play this hide-and-seek game with any other dog. Especially ones named MEG or GATOR!!
I love how when she stopped digging, she stood up in her "puffed up tall girl position" waiting for her buddy to pop up again! 🙂
Tha ks for the smiles!
Love

But the mud is half the fun of hunting!!! You should see what my bed looks like some nights when Mr. Muddy Paws comes to bed. You can't forget the mud!
