This video was at the end of his first class tonight. He learned how to pay attention to where Dad was instead of heading off every which way to investigate things going on in the park. He is on a 12 foot rope being held with Just a loop over one thumb. He did so well that the teacher singled him out for two different demonstrations....the first on how to get the dog's attention and the second on what the homework will be this week.

Kathi and the Turbotail April Angel...and the Labradork

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

OLLIE!! Can you believe your mom called you UNCONTROLLABLE? Surely she jas you confused with some other dogs in the class! After all, the Instructor singled you out as a shining example!!

I feel like a proud Auntie! Loving watching the connection you have with yiur Dad...and wagging yiur tail happily too!

Kathi, I saw your lost about Murphy's YouTube videos "missing". I know that's scary but the Admin Guy will figure it out.

Alao, didn't get to comment yesterday on the pictures of Ollie, Murphy and Gus you posted for Nat'l Dog Day. They were just wonderful. Ollie is so handsome! And, of course, my heart always smiles seeing Murphy and Gus.

Thoroughly enjoyed this video of Ollie today. Such a good boh!

Love and hugs!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Thanks, Sally. This video is just proof that we are definitely too old to take on the responsibility of an active young Lab. SNORT! I wish the people who sent him back to the shelter after three days could see it. They were the ones who said he was uncontrollable. Of course, the memory of him hauling the volunteer down the hall, jumping over other dogs and tipping over all the furniture in the lobby of the shelter while making a mad dash toward the front door is still a "fond" memory.

We are quite impressed with the teaching philosophy of this new trainer. Ollie was pulling strongly on the leash when we got out of the car before class. This was the result of about a half hour's work in class. A week more of the focusing on us should make a huge difference by the time the next class comes around. Murphy never did manage to stop tugging on the leash. I think we will be working on "heel" next week.

Your post cracks me up! Yes, you are the PERFECT humans for Ollie!

And the visual of him when you went to pick him up and he went running like a torpedo to get out of that shelter...priceless!!way-cool

I definitely need ro get some "leash training" for Merry Myrtle and Frankie. The results for Ollie are absolutely phenomenal!

Just curious, what was the main thrust if the technique the trainer used? Of course, I'm sure the bond Ollie has with his Dad helps.

Love ro all!

That is absolutely amazing!! I've got a couple of "uncontrolables" that could benefit from such training! Meesha has knocked me off my feet twice already.

Harmony became a Tripawd on 10/21/14 (MCT). She left us way too soon on 11/1/14.

I am chuckling here at the visual of the day you picked him up. That is pure Lab for you. They do nothing halfway. Of course, that includes loving their humans. I have to admit that I never really had Ty too trained on leash. We would head out of the vet office with me trailing along behind him at a dead run. So glad you can thumb your nose at those people. Enjoy him! Lori, Ty & Gang

TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed  and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

I think we need to send all our pups to Kathi and her hubby. Her dogs are all so well behaved. I know Hank is going to be the first one on the caravan. See, you can start a new business?? Crazed Pups R Us.

I'm afraid Ollie would be at the head of that class. He reverted to type last night when we first got there. It took about a half hour for him to settle at all. Once the instructor used him for a session of "heel", he started to get with the program. She actually just about gave me a heart attack, because when she was done, she had our big ole RUNNER walking at heel with the leash slung over her shoulder. Now we just have to practice at home. He also is to learn the automatic sit this week. One hundred sits while at heel over the next two days. 20 of those were done in class last night. We are also to work on the down command this week. Lots to do.

This one was an exercise of walking at heel toward another dog and then reversing back to the starting point. I can even do it! Dad's back is giving him trouble, so I may have to be the one who gets to haul Ollie around.

SSo much about your post and the videos have me grinning ear to ear. But my favorite part...watching Ollie's tail wag with such joy! Oh, and then the second video where you tell him "good boy" right st the end and he leans his head into you for a cuddle...while smiling....yeah, I LOVE it!!

Very impressive...especially walking towards another dog and then turning away! Now that's a big deal!

It's so much fun watching these training sessions...keep em coming!! Sounds like yourew getting a food workout too! And tell Pops to take it easy with his back!

Love to all!

Beautiful! That is hard work, it's amazing to see how quickly they just go in the opposite direction without so much as a "grrrr"

All those sit commands are good exercise too, he's really going to stay svelte with that kind of practice.

Must be that Tripawd T-Shirt Juju that keeps him hoppy and at the head of the class once again 🙂

Awesome job, Ollie!!! Mom & Dad too! He looks so proud! I dare you, Double Dog Dare you to take him back and show those people at the rescue just what he can do " with the right owners". Yep, you are perfect for him. Murphy and Gus knew exactly what they were doing when they sent Ollie your way. Keep up the good work and keep sharing videos! Lori, Ty & Gang

He will definitely go back to visit, but AFTER we complete the training! And he will NOT go into the building. I don't want him thinking we are taking him back.
