Just got the call about 20 min ago about Jazz.  She is in recovery.  Yes, I was worried all afternoon so I made a call and they were just finishing her up so Stacy called me back when she got into recovery.  They had a surgery in between the 2 girls and they had to steralize the instruments between the girls.  I will get a call again about 7 or 7:30 to let me know how they are doing.  I am glad I am leaving them there an extra night especially since Jazz got out of surgery so late.  Puts my mind at rest.

I decided not to see them because I think it would be hard to walk out without them and it might upset them too and I need them to rest.  I know we talk a lot about that here when our babies have their amputations about going to see them.  I think they will just do better without me being there not that I don't want to go see them.  I know how Snickers is when I leave to go out to dinner for an evening and come home she will not leave me a lone and becomes velcro dog.

Thanks for all the good thoughts for them & me.  Thanks to my special guardian Angel Sassy for watching over the girls

Hugs

Whew! That's a relief Michelle, I'm so happy to hear they're done with the surgery.

We agree totally, not visiting is usually best. Once we had a vet tell us that of course dogs are always happy to see the pawents when they're just out of surgery, but once the pawrents leave, that's when the vet and the techs have the tough job of calming the dog down, they get very anxious because they're confused why they didn't get to go home.  You done good.

Alrightee so one more day in Kansas. Hope you're having some good BBQ!

YAAAAAAAAAY FOR JAZZ!!!

Yeah, I know it's hard not foing to see them, but it does sound like it's best for Jazz and Snickers.

Are they next to each other in the same cage? I bet if they are they're having quite some conversations about what the heck is going on!!

Please enjoy yourself and make this as relaxing as you can! You deserve it!!

Thanks for the update! Sooooo relieved everything went well!

Mich love!

Michelle,
Sorry I missed all this conversation.......I do hope both your girls are doing well, and on their way to a good recovery. Wow, what a long trip with 2 big dogs, glad that went well too. Sassy is definitely watching out for you, and both your girls.

Keeping you, Snickers, and Jazz in my thoughts.

We are home :)   I am glad to have the girls back.  Both of them are sleeping right now.  The biggest challenge so far since we have been home is the fact that they both want to jump onto the furniture.  Which is a no no.  So in order to keep Snickers off the bed i have my suitcase on it.  Jazz won't stop trying to get onto the couch so she is back in her crate.

Long trip.  They were really good on the way home.  Have had their pain meds at 3 pm next dose is at 11 for that and then the rimadyl at 7.

I am really really glad they are home and we are all home :)   I missed Bosch and he missed his girls.  It will be a fun 2 weeks keeping them quiet.

Hugs

This is Snickers gastropexy scar.  For those of you who do not know what a gastropexy is it is a preventative measure to prevent the torsion (bloat) of the stomach.  Most deep chested breeds German Shepherds, Rotties, Great Danes (just to name a few) are at risk for this.  It can be life threatening.  Dr Boyer suggested it when we 1st got the girls and I wasn't sure if I was going to do it.  Well then after Bosch's scare I decided to go ahead and do it.

Then they had their ovariectomies which is just the removal of the ovaries instead of the whole uterus and ovaries.  Part of this procedure is that they can NEVER have any estrogen.  Otherwise it will put them into a heat cycle.  I will write more on the procedure later

Michelle I am so proud of you for being so proactive! A gastropexy and that type of spay surgery isn't cheap, but will greatly improve your dog's quality of life and your peace of mind in so many ways. Good job Ma!

Wyatt Ray had the pexy too, laparoscopically as well. His incision was identical, it's amazing what they can do now. We are SO glad he got 'pexied, especially after his friend Travis Ray almost died from torsion. The peace of mind that surgery buys is priceless.

As for the ovariaectomy, bonus points for that! If we had a choice I would have done the male version of that surgery (a vasectomy) when we adopted Wyatt but it was too late for that. For those who don't know, these types of surgeries are just like in humans; they stop the ability to reproduce but give the dog the benefit of the sex hormones, which reduces certain cancer risks. I look forward to your write-up on the surgery.

Hope they're feeling better today!
