My Merry Myrtle somehow "sliced" a big gash in her paw pad. I did try some "at home" treatment for a few days thinking I could stimulate healing.....wrong!

This is a picture of her a couple of hoirs after her surgery. She was whining and loopy. She kept "pawing" me with her sore paw wanting me to "fix it".

She's feeling great now and playing with Franki and seems to enjoy whacking him in his head with her wrapped paw!

The vet studied her gait before he took her in for surgery. He does think, because of the way her left rear leg "rolls in" ( I coukdnt see it), she lrobavly has the onset of hip dysplasia. Sigh...... Oh well, if that's all we have to deal with down the road (if at all), then we're pretty darn lucky! Need to study up on BEST joint supplements, etc.

Oh Myrtle, did you cut your foot on Ll this silly ice? I just want to snuggle with her. Cannot wait to meet her at the picnic. Frankie too! I have Dryl on Dasuquin for his Dysplasia. Just make sure to get the tablets if you decide to go that route. The chews have that nasty antifreeze ingredient. Feel better Myrtle

Thanks Lori! I know you're dealing with the onset too. Although none of my big dogs have ever had it (or little ones either for that matter), it is something that you are aware couod happen. But Daryl is so little...relatively speaking! Our dogs just prove to us over and over they are all different!

Thanks, I'll check out Dasuquin TABLETS!

Oh yeah...our tripawd pawty is going to be crazy fun!!

I am glad Myrtle is doing a little better.  I have done tons & tons of research of hip displaysa.  My dog Shadow had it & Sassy had it.  I gave supplements & Salmon oil helps.  But I wanted to try this Sasha's blend.  It has glucosmine and other supplements but is pretty expensive.    Here is a link to it.  Like I said I wanted to try it but never did.  http://www.sash.....s/sb_using

Here is another article on Hip displaysa

http://www.dogs.....s/hip.html

They also use adaquin injections too.  These are just a few articles I have.  I would have to go back & find the rest and I don't want to bombard the post with this.  :)

hugs

Shelby Lynne; Jack Russell/Shiba Inu mix. Proud member of the April Angels of 2014.

October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Sally if helps ease your mind, Jerry was also dx'd with hip displaysia as a pup and he did great, it hardly affected him at all through the years. Just keep Myrtle strong and VERY lean with some good supplements and she should do fine.

Sorry to hear about Merry Myrtle's owie. I hope she's soaking up all the sympathy. Mona tells me Myrtle needs a trip to Starbucks without Frankie because Myrtle needs ALL of the attention.

Mona also says that Myrtle needs daily brushes and massages on her hips. I've come to realize that Mona is on the girls only team.

Lots of love to both Merry Myrtle and Monsieur Franklin,

Kerren

Pug story time- it won't do much for MM's owwie but it should perk you up Sally...

Maggie once got an owwie between the toes of her one back foot.  I treated for a couple days, but I took her into the vet to make sure that there wasn't something embedded in her toe I couldn't see.  Of course Tani came along on the visit- the pug girls were always together back then.  So the vet cleaned it up and wrapped it like MM's, only she used a dark yellow vet wrap.  I immediately thought it looked like one of Tani's squirrel toys (SQUIRREL!!).  I said to Tani 'get the squirrel' and she immediately grabbed onto Mag's back foot!

Maggie was not amused, but my Vet, the Tech and I were quite entertained.

I hope Merry Myrtle heals up quickly.

Karen

Tri-pug Maggie survived a 4.5 year mast cell cancer battle only to be lost to oral melanoma.

Myrtle, my dear. How difficult it must be for you to have sit back and watch your brother have the zoomies. We are sending you positive thoughts so you will be racing around with him very, very soon.

And Mr Wilson with a sore toe, too... Hope he is feeling better soon.

The Tani "squirrel" story got a big chuckle out of us. I can see Murphy doing the same thing.

Kathi and Murphy

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Ohhh. Karen.....you and your Pug stories....I LOVE them!!! What a crew...what a barrel of laughs!!

No, I'm sure .aggie didn't find any humkr whatsoever in "get the squirrel" game!

I KNOW you miss Tani and .aggie like crazy! To jave Tani by your side and caring so lovingly for her for fifteen years...the void is huge right now. Andgrieving Maggie all over again jist sucks!

You're doing them both proud Karen...so proud!

Thanks for being here for all of us. Thank you for continuing to keep Maggie and Tani alive here with the never ending "Pug Stories"!

How is Obie handling things?
