I am sure it is just the heat in our apt (85 at night with only fans to relieve us) but the last two nights, I have woken up to what sound like the clickety-clack of dog nails on the floor near my bed. Two nights ago I bolted and reached for Jasper (who was snoring next to me after her day at daycare with the AC) because I thought she had jumped off the bed (it is too high for her) and wandering about. Scared the cr@p out of Jasper when I did that and still hear the clickety-clack.

Last night it was less pronounced but I heard it again and this time I knew Jasper was still on the bed...

I like to think it is Shelby visiting as I am remembering our last vacation together this weekend three years ago... I try and move past these memories but the Facebook memory thing always pops up! Our last trip to Santa Barbara and the wineries ... I came close to going through Santa Barbara on my recent summer vacation but couldn't quite handle it. Still too many memories there ... first real time taking a vacation with a dog (Shelby) and then a trip up there with the ex (heartbreak central) and then Shelby and my's last trip before she started chemo... It was such a hard trip on her since she really was sick and that leg was bugging her but we did our best to enjoy! heart

I am grateful all this time later, my girl still comes to visit with me... less frequently and I would personally prefer, not at 3 a.m.! winker

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Yep! That's Shelby. Hardwood floors don't have clicky toes. And JL is sleeping right through it because she knows it's Shelby watching after both of you.

Kathi

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Oh my gosh that was totally her visiting! Just doing a little patrol there, making sure you two hadn't melted from the heat.

I love the photo of you two. Is her tongue purple because of all that wine she was tasting? 😉

LOL about her purple tongue! Funny story... when I got Shelby, she only had spots which led us to think she might be part chow chow. By her senior years, her tongue was 100% purple! In fact, the first couple of months I had Jasper, it was very odd for me to look at a dog with a pink tongue!!! It still throws me sometimes.

Thank you all for indulging me ... some people think I am a bit nutty when I think or know I hear Spirit Shelby visiting but it doesn't spook me .. it makes me smile!

However... this morning on a walk w/Jasper I had a horrible PTSD attack. So Jasper is smaller than Shelby so when we walk, I always do my best to avoid curbs and use the driveway so Jasper doesn't have to hop up. I did that w/Shelby once she had her amp to make it easier to navigate and I was always worried about injury. I guess old habits die hard since I rarely let Jasper jump a curb and some of the steep ones, I pick her up. So this morning she hopped, what I thought was a lower curb, and she tripped and did a face-plant. I freaked the F out ... grabbed her before she even got up and was hugging and kissing on her, asking her if she was ok. Obviously she cannot speak. She was 100% fine. I put her down and she literally "shook it off". But the whole way home I was watching for a limp or something ... I tell ya... PTSD from when Shelby fell out of that car and broke her leg (also should be noted, I never let Jasper jump in OR out of the car - except once and she went to the floor first so she doesn't try and go seat first which is higher).

I know I need to not treat Jasper like a china doll but like I said, old habits die hard and Jasper got a cookie since her mama felt guilty for letting her face plant! kiss

OMD!!! That must have been really frightening, just like suddenly tipping you into the past. You're right, it is PTSD. And it's not surprising after what you went through with Shelby. Jasper is FINE; she got her cookie, she's got a Momma who totally dotes on her and takes care of her so well. A big glass of wine for you too, I think!

Lots of love,

We get it! Once you've been on this "journey", there's no such thing as "overreacting", we just jave an exceptional heightened awareness that others lack!!

You do a superior job of protecting and caring for Jasper!! heart Of course, you will aalways have Guardian Shelby protecting both of youheart

Lots of love

Haha she was sneaking wine on the side all those years, didn't you notice all the wine bottles in your recycling? 😉

Cute story about her tongue though. Adorable!

When it comes to "over-reacting", you're not. All of us have done that, I do it, Jim does it, we all do. It's a fine line between being vigilant and paranoid, but walking the middle is a darn good way to stay on top of any changes. You're doing great, Jasper Lily is lucky to have you.
