I get to work today and they have a whole spread of heart-shaped cupcakes and cookies for everyone to eat. Nobody said anything to me directly, but I think it's awfully nice they did all that for Rocky's two-year ampuversary.

Been awhile since I've posted, or even logged in. Although I have lurked some every now and then.
It was 10 years ago today that I first met a little blonde ball of fur. Didn't realize at that time that he would become the most beloved thing in my life. But here we are. Today would have been Rocky's 13th birthday. I'll probably need to head to Starbucks later for a Frappuccino (and a Puppuccino) to celebrate.
Hope everyone is doing well. Sorry for not being around more.

same here David, same here. I can't seem to find it in me to help more. You will always be in my heart though, we went through so much together, or rather at the same time, didn't we?
Manni would be turning 13 in about 6 months, too, but who knows that even inspite of the cancer if he would have ever made it that long.
Happy birthday, Rocky! And hugs to you, David. Both of you are in my thoughts today.
Guardian of Manni the Wonderdog. -Or was it the other way around?
Osteo and amputation in Dec 2015. Second, inoperable, primary osteosarcoma found in June 2017.
The end of our adventures came Dec 10, 2017. 2 years to the day.
Thanks for the well wishes. After hitting up Starbucks, I spent Saturday night just sitting in the living room thinking about all the happen stances 10 years ago that led Rocky to me, or maybe it was me to him. Yeah, probably me to him is more accurate. I still have to start writing a book about him. I still need to write my left-handed letter. I've let a lot of things fall by the wayside. But I still think about him, every single day. That will never change.
Tina,
The final lap, so to speak, seemed to start around the same time for both of us. Two years ago on July 5th is when I got confirmation that Rocky's cancer was spreading. And it wasn't long after that Rocky and Manni each started on Palladia. Seems so long ago and like yesterday at the same time.
Baxter is doing well. He tore his dew claw again, but recovered quickly. And he found a dead rabbit hiding in some brush on one of our walks. He was excited about that. He pulled it out from the brush and dropped it on the sidewalk for everyone to see. Fortunately, he hasn't caught any more live ones (or squirrels) yet.
Oh, and pictures. Here are some pictures:

And no matter what's going "wrong" (or, I guess I should say, "less right") on any given day, pictures of Baxter ALWAYS bring a smile to my face! And in case of third photo, an audible laugh out loud😄 And that second photo shows a perfect example of contentment, along with a little bit of smugness..."Yeah, I'm cute and I know it."

Oh too funny about the rabbit! Soooo gross and yet he was so proud! I'll bet Rocky was giggling away when Baxter showed you his prize.
He's so darn cute. Sorry about the dewclaw mess, that had to hurt him. Ouch!
And I love his little football. Jerry played with the exact same one, which Wyatt played with too and we still keep it on our night table!

Great minds must think alike for Jerry and Baxter.
That football is to Baxter what tennis balls were to Rocky. I bought a handful of footballs for Baxter. He's funny. He'll play with one for months, even a year, and then one day he'll decide to just destroy it. And I have to throw it away and grab another one for him. And then he'll play with that one for months before tearing it apart.
A question for anybody who may have gone through this: About a year ago, Baxter lost a tooth chasing after a rabbit. We went to the vet then and there was no sign of the tooth in his mouth. The vet said then that Baxter's mouth/gum would likely heal and seal up the spot to keep any infection out, but to keep an eye on it to make sure there wasn't any swelling.
Baxter hasn't had any issues, but I noticed something in that spot while we were playing with his football. I took a pic and sent it to his vet. He thinks it's part of the broken tooth still in there. He recommended a teeth cleaning and extracting the remaining part of the tooth while Baxter is under. That's probably what I'm going to do. I don't want to risk it getting infected somewhere down the line and becoming a problem. But Baxter hasn't shown any issues with it over the past year or so.

Baxter the Quarterback, I love it!
Good job spotting the odd area where his tooth was. I've never had a dog lose a tooth so I'm no help there, but I'm glad you're taking him for that exam and cleaning. Staying on top of their dental health is soooo important.

Nope, no input from me either. Seems to me though...and goodness knows this is just me..., but seems like if any infection were to happen, it would have happened within the first couple of weeks of the "rabbit run".
I sure did enjoy reading about Baxter and his football ritual. That Baxter is so darn full of his cute self .
A quick hijack. How is your Dad's dog doing (can't remember his name..Rascal maybe? No, not your dad's name!) as far has the eye situation?

Nitro had over $4000 in dental work done many years before his cancer. Had one of his canines that a crack in it cut partially off and rounded, as well as 2 or 3 root canals.

On the one hand, I'm with Sally in that I think if that tooth (or what's left of it) was going to be a problem, it would have already happened. On the other hand, I remember reading about how tooth infections can eventually lead to heart disease. My biggest fear with Rocky, and now Baxter, is that I'll ignore something because it seems minor and then it turns out to be a bigger problem down the road.
Sally,
My dad's dog, Ripple (you were close!), is hanging in there. I'm not sure how well he sees at this point, but he still gets multiple eye drops daily. He still has some vision left. He's also developed a heart issue, so he's on meds for that now too. He's almost 13, so he's definitely a lot slower than he used to be, but he seems to be doing well relatively speaking.

I'm surprised that they didn't xray when the tooth first broke- that's what my vet has done with most of our tooth fractures. I think it is rare that a broken tooth will come out cleanly so they xray to see what is left in the jaw.
Until Elly came along I've been dealing with Pug sized mouths so any tooth issue tends to morph into a bigger deal. Pug's have the same number of teeth in much less real estate then non-brachycephalic dogs. Elly has a bit longer snout but still has crowding issues.
For me and my dog's I wouldn't leave a piece of tooth in the jaw- but again my experience with broken teeth is that they ALWAYS become a problem. Seems like if it hasn't become infected by now maybe it won't ? But it could also be causing him pain when he eats and I wonder if it could break through again? Elly had a slab fracture of her upper 4th pre-molar with pulp exposed and I didn't see any overt pain signs from her. That is the largest tooth in the mouth and one of the main chewers so it must have been painful especially with the exposed pulp. After her surgery and recovery she did seem like she felt better overall though... they are so good at hiding pain!
