Well....Murphy did it again. There was a Penny at the bottom of the laundry basket yesterday.
I had called on a yellow Lab at the shelter in Twin Falls ID last Friday. They said he was out on a home visit. I called them again on Tuesday when we got home from our daughter's (we had been gone for three weeks), and they said that the people had not returned him. So I thought we had missed another one. When we pulled into the garage after spending the day in Boise, my phone rang. They told us that the people had returned "Jetson" because he was too much to handle. They had a ten year old son, and the dog was trying to establish dominance, so they brought him back.
We told them we would be there this morning and got back in the car for another long drive today. It is almost three hours from our house. When we got there, they brought out this out-of-control ball of fire. We took one look at him and said he was just the pup we had been looking for. By the time we left the shelter, Garry had him walking at heel. He rode home in the back of the Jeep (we put the dog divider bars in before we went), and only fussed once when he needed to get out at a rest stop and do his doggy things.
Since he has been here, he has started to learn that his name is Oliver. We call him Ollie. He has learned what it means when he is told to sit, but definitely does NOT want to obey the come command. We will get out the 30' dog training rope, and practice will happen. After he ate his supper, I put him in the kennel in our room. He has been sawing logs in there for the past hour and a half.
So without further ado...may I present Ollie!

Murphy sent a big penny 🙂 I am so glad you found Ollie. You will have him in shape & listening before you know it. Watch those green beans you never know Murphy might show him the ropes of eating those too 😉

Thanks, Michelle and Admin Guy. Not too sure about the green beans yet, but he did find a little green apple that had fallen off the tree. I told him to drop it, and he put it right in my hand. He tries so hard to please, but just has absolutely no idea of what he is supposed to do. Poor baby. Nobody ever told him.
He was just neutered last week, so once some of those hormones wear out of his big body, there may be a bit more hope. He tried the dominance thing on Garry this afternoon. Tried humping at first and got nowhere fast with that. Then he tried that little nibbling motion on the surface of the skin...not too sure how to describe it. Garry took his face in his hand and did the same thing right back to him. He just stepped back and looked sort of shocked that anyone would tell him that DAD is the alpha dog and not Ollie!

Oh my goodness, he is just adorable! How old is he? Labs have such an exuberant, joyful personality. Cannot wait to see more pictures! So happy for you! Lori, Ty & the gang
TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
Pennies from heaven indeed !!!! Murphy and Gus did GOOD !!! And I have to say, yellow is an excellent choice!
Welcome Ollie, now time to do some training with your new mom and dad, and I know you have found the perfect home full of love.....!

I never realized the nibble thing is a dominance thing...I guess I should have, our Max does that with the cats...the cats kind of like it lol they roll around and let him nibble their necks

Ollie is a year or two old, as near as they could figure at the shelter. We will get an opinion at the vet's office tomorrow when we take him in for a health check. This dog WILL have health insurance, too!
He still acts just like a big puppy. The people at the shelter referred to him as a Labradork. Garry's first Golden was this age when he got him. Totally out of control and turned out to be the best bird dog he ever had.

OMD! I love that Murphy, and Gus too, sent you such a handful! I just know they are laughing their butts off and all his little antics already!!
You and Garry have been used to such well trained and well behaved dogs.....well, an outta' control puppy is EXACTLY what you need to bring laughter into your life again!
I do feel sorry for the little fella' being bounced around just because he really just doesn't know what's expected of him. He's clueless and he's just an "uninformed" puppy. I don't think those few days he spent at that other house were very pleasant. He probably came out of there so confused..... not knowing what he did "wrong"....just a puppy dog being a puppy dog!
IAM SOOOOO THRILLED THAT YOU AND GARRY ARE HIS NEW HUMANS...HIS NEW FOREVER HOME!!! This is a PERFECT match! And boy oh boy, it's gonna be such fun follwing Ollie as he evolves into the dog he was born to be...the dog Murphy and Gus knew you needed.....and knew he needed you!!
And one of my favorite parts of this whole story...and there are many....the YOUNGER family couldn't handle him....they were too d**n young!!!!! LMAO!!!!!
More pictures as soon as you can!!! Is tonight too soon? How about some "before" pictures. By that I mean, pictures of him jumping up on the table to get his pancakes rather than waiting patiently for Garry to feed it to him!

A labradork! Haha, I haven't heard that one before. Ollie is such a cutie! I could've screamed when you posted his picture on facebook last night, I was so happy! Murphy wanted to make sure you knew he had his paws all over this. 🙂
Rosco had just been neutered when we adopted him and he was trying to hump all of us constantly. We just kept correcting him and he stopped within a couple of days and hasn't done it since. Poor babies, whatever type of life they were used to get's shaken up and they just feel the need to have control over something; but, once they realize mom and dad have that taken care of they calm down.
I can't wait to see more pictures and hearing about Ollie's shenanigans!!!

Is this the same berserko dog we brought home yesterday? He sits every time he is told to, slept all night in his kennel after we took him out at bedtime, gives tons of doggie kisses and is being a perfect gentleman in the house. He is responding so very, very well to all the love and positive reinforcement he is getting here. All he needed was us....and all we needed was him. We are already in love!
