Hi all,

Well, today was the big day for my Pearl.....after letting her go through a first heat by the suggestion of our vets, Pearl is now recovering, and will be ready to come home this evening with us. She did great and will be a bit loopy for the rest of the night, but always very happy when surgery goes well, even for something as routine as a spay. Although, her hips were examined by my vet, as I always have them do, and it looks like I will have the very first Lab with dual mild hip dysplasia.......definitely not bothering her right now, but we will start her on Dasuquin for the rest of her life, just like my Maggie was when she was discovered to have mild dysplasia in her right rear leg. The thing that kicks me in the butt right now is, I had a very large bottle of Dasuquin left over from Polly after her amp, that was practically brand new when she passed away, and I just gave it to a friend for her yellow Lab.....sigh.....and speaking of Polly, this was my first surgery experience since Polly's last surgery, and two weeks before she left me....also the same recovery room as Polly......so a bit bittersweet today....love my girls.....

Love to everyone.

Bonnie, Angel Polly, and Pearl

So glad that Pearl came through her procedure with flying colors.  I'm sure you can't wait to get her home so she can recover in the quiet of your home.

Hugs

So glad to hear Pearl is doing well! I am sure she will be happy to be home.

I have a bag of Dasuquin with MSM soft chews leftover from Shelby. I would say the bag is about 3/4 full. It's for small to medium dogs (under 60 pounds) but if you wanted them, I would be happy to send them to you. I don't know what I can do with them. I don't think Jasper needs them (yet) and I think I read somewhere that until they need them, you shouldn't give them as preventative.

You know Polly was looking over Pearl and keeping her safe today! :-)

Hugs and love (and let me know if you want the chews ... I can ship them out to you)!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Hi Bonnie

So glad to hear that Pearl's surgery went well.  Even post-op she is a beautiful girl :)

I agree with Alison - Polly was definitely watching over Pearl today.

Those are some pretty awesome pink elephants you are seeing, Pearl.  We are all pulling for this to be your last surgery...EVER...so you had better take a good look at them.  Seriously, it's so good to hear that she is doing well and will be back to herself in no time.

Kathi and Murphy

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

So gald to hear all is well. For some reason I thought Pearl was yellow also. She looks somewhat like my Daryl, who was by the way, diagnosed with severe bilateral hip dysplasia.:-( Same deal, Dasaquen and Metacam from now on and later new hips. Polly was there with you both today. Watching over her sister and Mama. Love from Lori, Ty, C, L, & D

TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed  and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

Yay! She's all growed up now.

Try not to worry too much about the hip displaysia. We were told that Wyatt has it and at 5 years old he's still showing no signs. Keep her lean and fit and monitor her activity and she will be fine. As for the Dasuquin, we've been told by some rehab vets that giving such a strong supplement before symptoms arise may not always be the best idea; the body gets used to things and if she is used to Dasuqin by the time her symptoms start showing (if at all), you will need to find something much stronger. Instead we were advised to start with a milder joint support supplement like plain old glucosamine. You might want to ask your vet.

Yay !! How about that ?! My Angel Polly's banner came up when I clicked into here to post !! That definitely proves, like everyone here said, that she was watching over Pearl yesterday and today.......and I absolutely believe that, because Pearl woke up this morning like nothing was amiss, and was already back to her usual young Lab self. Eating like a pig, wanting to play, etc. ....Not yet Pearlie girl !! The only difference is, she achieved the status of " cone-of-shame" , level 9 out of a possible level 10, because she will NOT leave her stitches alone. C'mon healing..........!!

Sahana and Angel Leland, thank you for your warms thoughts, and yes, last night she definitely needed some quiet to settle down.

Alison and Shelby, and Jasper....thank you as well, and I will let you know about the Dasuquin from sweet Shelby....I want to talk to my vet about the Dasuquin thing after reading Jerry's/Rene's post......

Thank you, Linda and Tucker, yeah I think Pearl is a cutie if I must say so!! She is definitely a good looking Lab! Hope Tucker is continuing to do well.

Kathi and Murphy, yeah, I am betting on those pink elephants yesterday, and a few orange and purple striped hippos.....and I agree, hopefully no more surgeries for a long time if ever. Thank you for your caring thoughts.

Lori and crew, I am for sure, a black Lab lover first and foremost.....Polly has possibly spoiled me with the yellow Lab thing....after her, I don't thing any yellow will ever come close to measuring up to her so I will not pursue a yellow girl again until I can get past this feeling, if I can....Hope Daryl is much better today.

Sally and M.M., thank you as always, you are our bright light in the fog here! Yesterday was a bit stressful, but overall, I knew Pearl was in very good hands, and she is young and healthy right now so nowhere near the stress of what I went through with Polly most of her life. And last night was really not too bad, I slept with Pearl in our living room and she kept trying to sneak getting at her stitches....but I fixed that, lol !!

Jerry/Rene, thanks for the info on Dasuquin...I will speak to my vet and get his thoughts....I am thinking since this is a very mild case of dysplasia, but she has been showing a little discomfort at times, the Dasuquin will help her long term....I will definitely talk to my vet though.

Thanks to all and much Love,

Bonnie and Angel Polly, and Pearl too

Glad Pearl is back to her sweet self!! Good to hear! But you leave those stitches alone Missy! Your little inside girlie private stuff doesn't need anymore stitching and snipping, okay?

And a little sh o ut out to the lovely Miss Polly for making her banner pop up for her mom today! Good timing! I love it when I see it to...her gentle beauty always takes my breath away.

Lots of love to all!
