It's been quite a while since I've posted anything new about Lucian and his antics (there's just been so much loss recently) but I just had to share this story. Sunday evening hubby and I decided we pick up dinner at the Cracker Barrel since we'd been outside all day doing yard work.... So we decided to take Lucian with us to get him out and in the car instead of putting him in the crate while we were gone.
So we get to the restaurant and we get Lucian out. Hubby is going to sit with him in the grass while I go in and order the food and wait for it. Well, apparently Lucian didn't like the idea of me and hubby separating. Hubby has been having problems with his hands (carpel tunnel) and his right hand (dominant) is the worst. So of course he has Lucian's leash wrapped around that hand and as I'm walking away Lucian pulls free of hubby. We're both frantic yelling for him and he just panics and takes off. Hubby is running after Lucian while I while I run around the back of the building to cut him off. There's people waiting out front and according to hubby they kind of jump back when Lucian comes running through. Somebody was coming out the door so Lucian goes in the door. I guess he was thinking the building would be a safe place.... Thank goodness Cracker Barrel has 2 sets of doors to go through before you're actually in the restaurant or else Lucian would have been running all over that place and scared totally out of his mind not to mention scaring the staff and customers.
I see hubby has him so I walk back around the back of the building trying to get myself together. I was so scared he'd get hit by a car in the parking lot or worse run out into the street. I realized that even though Lucian can be an a--hole sometimes and torments the crap out of me...I still love him. I would have been heartbroken if something awful happened to him and I would never have forgiven myself.
So hubby and I have decided to get Lucian out and about more so he doesn't get so worked up and panic. So last night we loaded him up in the SUV and took him out to our Tractor Supply store. They allow dogs to come in and we thought it wouldn't be as busy as a Lowes store. Lucian was keyed up due to all the smells and seeing other people. I was happy to see that he was excited to greet people and didn't show any signs of aggression (hair standing up or growling). At home he's very vocal about letting us know he sees people or critters out in the yard and will bark and growl. And Lucian was definitely all about the doggie treats we found. We got him a pig ear and beef bone so he was one happy boy when he got back to the car.
Lucian is so much stronger than Leland was so we need to get him to be a little calmer when we're out and not freak out.
Here's some pictures of our boy...man he's BIG!! And we've given up on trying to get his ears to stand. He'll hold them up when he's chasing birds and geese out of the yard but otherwise they flop over. Since his skin was constantly pulling open when we'd tape them up we couldn't keep putting him through that discomfort...not to mention it taking like 2 weeks to get them to heal just to post them and have it happen all over again.
Well, I'm having some technical difficulties posting pictures.... For some reason I'm not getting the hand to click on the mountain icon up top. I'll try posting in another window but if that doesn't work...guess I'll put them up in the blog.

OMG ... I think it is some sort of 'rite of passage' that all dogs have to go through to remind us that we do indeed love them (even if they are being a'holes)! Jasper took off my first week I had her and I was petrified. Shelby did it to me 24 hours after I got her!
I cannot even imagine the looks on people's faces at Cracker Barrel to see HUGE Lucian coming at them. He was probably scared but with his size and speed... comical. I am glad you caught up with him and all was OK (and I've been in those stores so glad nothing was broken inside). Imagine a bull in a china shop!
I do love taking little JL w/me on outings when I can because while she doesn't growly or barky ... she does get spooked. However, on our happy hour dates, sometimes she gets the barkys when people walk past our outdoor table. We are working on that!
He is certainly handsome!!! Very regal. I love his floppy ears though. I love the bashful/innocent photo. He's just adorable!!! Hey, maybe w/his ears down he won't hear as much as Jasper does w/her dumbo ears!
Hugs and love,
alison with her spirit shelby furever in her heart (and little jasper too)

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

A Bull in the China Shop indeed!!! It hadn't even dawned on me all the breakable items in the shop of Cracker Barrel would have been broken if Lucian got through the 2nd set of doors. Thank God hubby got him before somebody else came out the doors...I'd hate to imagine the bill Lucian would have racked up with running and hitting those tables that are piled high with stuff!

OH Holy cow LOL. I am so glad that you caught up with him. Do you have any shops like open mall areas?? Take him and just walk him around. Tractor Supply, do you have a Bass Pro shop?? They allow dogs don't have to be hunting dogs at all.
Lucian is a lot bigger. He is a strong dog very beautiful. I love his ears
Oh and thank goodness no breakables were broken.
Hugs

Love his ears! Posting, smosting, Lucian had his own ideas on that! As soon as I started reading this, I had this visual of him running through the actual Cracker Barrel, not just the outer doors. Have to admit, I found it funny. Not the part about him getting loose, I imagine you were terrified, but the thought of him ripping through the shop itself. Imagine the security video. He may calm down. Actually, until TY became really, really ill, I had to pull the car up to the door of groomer or vet and then get him because he would literally drag me across the parking lot. Our vet was along a busy road. So, he really never did calm much. That's ok, that is what made him TY. Luciano antics make him Lucian. He is a big handsome dude! Lori, Ty and Gang

She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
Sooooo scary! But my oh my....the visuals are HILARIOUS!! Like Alison, I had visions of the "Bull in the China Shop" breaking all their little knick knacks and jumping up on tables grabbing food!!
I bet a whole lot of people were mighty scared when they saw this gentle giant running towards them!! LOL!! Cracker Barrel will never be the same!! He saw his momma go in to get some food and he was not about to miss his supper!!
And he is a big handsome dude indeed!! I know we always call him Regal, because he is!!
I LOVE, LPVE, LPVE these pictures!! OMD!! So cute!! That "innocent look" is precious beyond words! Your melting my heart Lucian!! And looking up towards the sky at thenplane...one smart boy!

What a handsome, crazy puppy!
Well Sahana, you know like all of us that the puppy years don't last forever. Wyatt Ray finally made it out of his. He just turned SIX!
P.S. Yep, taking him out in public is good therapy. We do it as much as possible with Wyatt. One thing we do is take him to the grocery store on shopping trips. I go inside while Jim walks him around in front of the entrance. Lots of distractions and good opportunities to build that bond.
