I updated her blog today but I know I can get a bit wordy ... but the highlights are ... SO proud of her! We made it a whole year! We both grew ( a lot - thankfully not those ears)... we love a lot .. we laugh ... a lot!
We celebrated with a long hike in the mountains near LA this weekend and had 'cake' (well she did, I did not) and thanked our special angel for arranging the universe so we could find each other. I miss and always will miss what I had with Shelby but I am thankful that i have someone new to travel, explore and laugh with.
Shelby really trained me on "being more dog" and it was a hard lesson to learn but I feel that each day with Jasper, I embrace her teachings where I didn't with Shelby. I took our life for granted sometimes but each day with Jasper is a gift and a reason to celebrate to each day we thank Shelby, tell her we love her and enjoy what life has in store for us!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

I'm so happy for your 1 year anniversary!! You and Jasper are truly blessed to have found each other. Miss Shelby did a fantastic job leading you to each other!!

Awwww! Now that looks like such a great time! I'm so glad you got to go on a fun adventure to celebrate her new life with you. Both of you are quite a duo, you were a match made in heaven by Shelby and you didn't even know it a year ago. Beautiful to see how much you've both become attached to each other.

TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

LORI!!!! I love that Shelby's banner popped up! She definitely approves .. she's probably thinking, in her typical fashion, "I always knew best ... always". Love my alpha girl.
Thank you all for taking this journey with me in our first year. It is amazing to me how full circle I have really come ..from thinking she was cute enough, to disliking her (yup, I did), to only caring for her since she was a dog to liking her to loving her - a lot!
Her cake is really simple. I found the recipe online and substituted chick pea flour for almond flour (we are gluten free here and I couldn't find chickpea flour even at Whole Paycheck (foods)).
1 ripe banana
2 eggs
1 1/2 cup almond flour
3 tbls water
Mix and bake at 350 for 20 - 25 min. The cake will be super dense.
"Frosting"
1/2 cup pure pumpkin
1/4 cup peanut butter (we used raw almond butter - no sugar)
I decorated w/kibble because that's how we roll! 🙂
I am sure it's super high calorie so she only gets a tiny sliver a night but she loves it. And i guess I could eat it too but since it has her grain free kibble all over it ... yeah, I'll leave this for little JL and just have a glass of vino! Cheers!
