My college best friend is losing her beloved Elvis tonight ... Elvis has lived the best life a dog could ask for ... he has been spoiled from the day he came home to their family. Elvis has lived with my best friend's parents through the years ... gone in the car everywhere, got presents galore, toys, food, treats !!! Oh you think Shelby was spoiled? Elvis has her beat!
Elvis is a dachshund mix ... he's fiesty, used to routine, (did I mention spoiled) and loved! So loved ...
But tonight his journey on earth is ending. I had the chance to see Elvis over the holidays and he was weak then. He fought and beat cancer! TWICE! He wasn't a tripawd but he was a cancer survivor for over 8 years.
But this past holiday, it was obvious he was slowing down; he was mostly blind, deaf and slept most of the day. He was happy and in no pain so basically he's been in "hospice" since the holidays. But my friend called today to tell me he probably won't make it through the night.
Elvis is suffering from congestive heart failure. Elvis is 18 years old. He has lived a rich life!
So as he joins our angels over the bridge, I have called Shelby to greet him and welcome him home, can I ask that you ask your angels to do the same? My heart breaks for my friend .. I wish I could be with her right now but she knows that she is my thoughts and that we will all be sending love, prayers and healing energy!
Thank you!!!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
You bet Alison! We are sending loving and supportive energy for a peaceful transition for this spectacular Rock Star named Elvis!!
You have done a BEAUTIFUL job of introducing us to Elvis. So good in fact, I was had a hard time keeping the tears at bay and getting rid of that lump in my throat.
And for you to say he was more spoiled than Shelby? Now that is an EXTREMELY spoiled dog!! Clearly Elvis did love very full and rich life
Your friend feels your presence during this awfully sad time. She knows you understand like no others can.
And you can reassure your friend that Elvis's trip back home to the Bridge will be a spectacular celebration! Shelby will be dressed in everything that sparkles! I'm sure she'll have on her glittering tiara! Elvis will see her as he gets closer to the Bridge and he'll get younger and younger as he gets closer! His eyesight will be restored and his eyes will glisten with joy as he sees all the I ce cream and steak and cupcakes and cookies that await him in Happy Hannah's welcome wagon! All of April's Angels, along with everyone else, will stand at attention as Jerry gives him his Purple Heart for being such a brave little hero who whooped that piece of crap disease ass!!
Thank you for giving us the privilege of knowing this amazing hero named Elvis! He WILL be remembered here and his life does matter to us!
YOU are an Earth Angel sweet Alison!
With love to all,

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
He will be greeted by many. I know Sassy will be there. My thoughts are with you & your friend Alison. I know Elvis will be healthy until he meets his family again

Murph and Gus will be standing by, too.
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
Count me in too Alison..... Those Dachshunds are definitely feisty little pups, and wow, Elvis is 18 years old, what a full life he has lived. I know we always want more time with our pups, but realistically, 18 years is a very long time. When I lost my first Lab Duchess, even though I felt like I would never survive her loss, she lived almost 16 years, and did everything, and went everywhere with me, no regrets, and I absolutely knew how fortunate I was to have her so long...... And we had a fantastic life together.
That is what I am hoping for your friends, that they can look back and say, no regrets, we did everything in this lifetime that we possibly could 🐾💜
I will be keeping them in my thoughts as their little guy goes over the Bridge 💜💜💜🌈
Love,
Bonnie, Angel Polly, and girls
I'm soooo sorry for your friend, my heart goes out to Elvis' pack and I'm keeping them in my heart. It's such a difficult decision to make, even after a long, beautiful life like his. He sounds like he was a great dog.

I hope Elvis' transition was peaceful yesterday.
Feisty is Tani's department, I'm sure she has already recruited Elvis for the Rainbow Bridge Fun Police.
I hope your friend finds some peace and solace when reflecting on the long and wonderful live Elvis lived. Elvis will always be with her and her parents.

I am so sorry about Elvis; what a wonderful life he has lived. My Lily will be there waiting for him, if she doesn't get too shy.
Joan and my angel, Lily
Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
Thank you dear friends ...Elvis's transition was peaceful and his family is on the road that sadly we all know all to well.... numb, sad, pain, and eventually healing. I hurt for my friend SO much as she doesn't have as much support as I was and am so blessed to have in my life. Her life hasn't been an easy one and I think a part of me - selfishly - wondered why Shelby who was younger went first. I have come to realize that Elvis and his life was still needed on this earth to help her with last year's challenges of losing her beloved grandfather.
She was the reason Jasper and I extended our trip home last winter ... because when your best friend begs you to welcome the new year to try and start 2016 on somewhat of a positive note, you do whatever you can!
So her (and her family's healing) begins ... I hope with all my little heart that they can find some peace in knowing what a rich and beautiful life Elvis led and that he was greeted at the bridge with the best of the best!!!
Thank you for loving me, my friend, Elvis and each other! You all make this world a better place!

Ohhhh wow, it's always so sad that another great dog has gone on to the Bridge. But yes, Elvis had much work to do in this lifetime. Now that he's a spirit dog, he'll continue doing it in other ways for his people and many others he touched.
All our love to Elvis and his pack. Great dogs like him (and good friends like you!) add such love to our lives.

Thanks for letting us know the transition for Elvis was peaceful. I know your friend is g@ad to have you by her side. And Elvis was glad to jave Shelby meet him at the Bridge.
Actually, as I read through all the responses it gave me the idea of creating a thread about the different jobs our Angels have at the Bridge.
So in honor of Elvis and his friend Shelby, and all the Angels, here's the link.....
