Oh Teri as I predicted it didn't take very long to get Roxy to "smile". Love it! Looks like that girl is going to keep you on your toes for sure! And yea might want to put a bell on that girl to give the birds a fighting chance. Looks like she thinks keeping the yard clear of varmits is part of her job. Must be a part of belonging to the "big yellow dog rescue club" thing. And Sally is right Wanda we need an update on your precious feisty Joe that Ted sent you too! Such a sweetie he is too!
Wow! This is HUGE progress in a very short space of time. Roxy is clearly responding to your positive energy and I can't help feeling Isa has a paw in this too. Allowing herself a chuckle or two, no doubt, but enjoying seeing her plans for her Mum and the pupstart coming to fruition. What a lucky girl to have been chosen for you, Teri. And you can absolutely see how she is starting to relax. Just gorgeous. This makes me so happy.
Ruby, Staffy, born June 2022, became a Tripawd, November 2023, adopted January 2024.
Also Angel Tripawd Meg (aka The Megastar), who died in April 2023, aged 14, after seven glorious years on three, and Angel Staffies Elsie Pie and Bille. In the pawprints of giants...
I do love her smile!!! Teeth and all!!! 🙂
It will take time to get used to it all.... and LOL @ the greenbeans... now Shelby ate those but no other veggies ... Jasper, however, is a pure veggie girl! LOVES them all.
And the signature... that took me a bit too... always Shelby furver in my heart (and little jasper as a sidenote) ... but Jasper is my sidekick so it makes sense!
HUGS! You guys are doing great!!!!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Gator still has Roxy beat on the body count, and honestly, anything that can fly and still gets caught? Limited sympathy here. I did have a jingle bell on him for a limited period of time, but I think his dog tags do the trick. The issue is not a giant dog sneaking up on the critter unseen - Most of the critters here learned and either moved or got smarter. Gator also didn't get toys at first - he now has both the stuffed alligator and a stuffed dinosaur. He will not play with Otis and Tess' old toys. There are still times when he seems really uncertain and insecure, especially after my trips. Just give Roxy time and put your shoes in the closet!
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. Lung mets August 25, 2016. Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.
Wherever they are, they are together.
Great update Teri. I love all the improvement . I think Isa agrees too

I do believe itsw time for another Roxynupdate!! Actually, I'm sure of it!! 🙂
WITH PICTURES!!! 🙂
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Just got caught up on Eurydice so I may not be as entertaining as one might hope. My apologies.
Miss Roxy is now allowed (by Wallee) upstairs and with zero adjustment period started sleeping on the bed. Which is good because it means for the most part she is there instead of barking at whoever is on the trail behind the house at 5:30 am. God help me, I have a morning dog. She also prefers to sleep horizontally in the dead center of the bed but I think that's standard dog operating procedure.
Negotiations between Roxy and Wallee are ongoing and mostly I do not to interfere. Except when Wallee's ears are completely flat to her head - no good will ever come of that situation. Mostly the problem is Roxy has no clue how big she is. Or exactly how bouncy. I watched them nose-to-nose, Wallee intermittently raising her paw and Roxy responding identically. Someone, somewhere is missing the true nature of the gesture. I will try to get them on video, I promise.
Roxy and I have done a couple of walks although it's been hot here and we're both in woeful physical condition. We have yet to do Isa and my complete standard loop but I'm sure we will eventually. Really, really need to do some training with her, maybe agility training. She sailed over the (very short) gate the other day beautifully.
I have become better trained at keeping my shoes in the closet so no further losses on that front.
Less than two weeks on a better grade of dog food and her coat is so, so much better. I still think she needs a bath but I'm not as motivated as I was. Poor thing was getting Old Roy at her former home.
I should have put something next to her feet for scale - next time. And look at her freckles!
Tired and hot and the dribble of water from the bowl, complete with zombie eyes.
and Queen of all she surveys:
Can you say "adapted"? I think it's safe to say she thinks she's home now.
Right rear leg amp 7/12/16 due to OSA. Metastatic lesion on her right front leg, January 2017. Joined the Winter Warriors January 19, 2017. Run free my sweet girl.
Indeed she does look very comfortable and very "at home"! Well done!!! She looks so much more at peace!!! Isn't it amazing?!
Thank for the update!
XOXO

Oh Teri she looks GORGEOUS! and very much at home 🏡 😊
I really need to see a showdown video between her and Wallee!! Pleeeease??
And since you're at it: pics from the upcoming agility class would be appreciated too 😊
Manni has the same freckled skin on his underside and we have always called them his cow spots or his cow belly. This has more meaning nowadays.

My apologies, but no new pictures. I'll remedy that over the weekend and (fingers crossed) see if I can't get some footage of the Wallee and Roxy show. The minute I move to get the phone, Roxy comes to see what I'm doing - either that or one or both of them are moving too, too fast. Roxy leaped down a full six steps this morning in pursuit.
In the good news category, Roxy and I went to daycare this morning. She refused to get in the car - I had to lift her in, one half at a time, but then she seemed interested in the drive. We only stayed at daycare for about 20 minutes - she's not ready to be left there yet. But in that 20 minutes she went from being literally wrapped around my legs (I had no idea a dog could do that) to trotting over to say hello to the owner with no food involved. There were no loose dogs around, just getting her used to everything and all the smells. I was there the entire time so she could velcro to me when she needed/wanted. We're going three times next week (and beyond) and will keep working on her confidence/bravery/what-have-you. Hopefully one of these days she will be secure enough to stay and play all day.
In less good news, Roxy has been barking her fool head off while I'm at work. No clue whether it's boredom or separation anxiety or the bobcat that has taken up residence behind the houses. I'm getting somewhat conflicting reports from neighbors about how constant the noise is. In even less good news, my immediate neighbor (on one side) has an unfortunate history with dogs and is, essentially, scared to death of Roxy with evidence of an increasing reluctance to meet her. Roxy was left today shut in the house - any barking will be muffled and the neighbor need not fear for her safety, not that she should in the first place. So if anyone has any brilliant tips for barking when you're not home, please please speak up. For now a bark collar is off the table for any number of reasons.
Yes, Elizabeth, she is training me quite well! Tina, totally swiping the "cow spots," I like it! Manni doesn't look like the kind of guy to be spotted on the underneath but one never knows about such things.
Every day is a bit more progress. She did not bark at all last night after I got home (in spite of the rodeo going on across the road - the loudspeaker frequently drowns out the tv) and the barking this morning I think was actually in my dream. The situation with the neighbor has me stressed for a number of reasons.
Hard to believe it was just two weeks ago she was barking and growling at me and not moving from her "safe zone"!
Happy weekend all!

You crack me up, Teri! I am SO enjoying this - the story and the fabulous way you tell it. But even more, I just love the fact that Miss Roxy and your sweet self have found each other.
I do totally relate to your stress over the neighbour. I have a feeling Roxy will win them over in the end. How were they with Isa?
I haven't dealt with this sort of barking. In London, where there are lots of triggers to set Meg off, neighbours dogs coming and going, that sort of thing, I've found a white noise machine helpful. I usually have it on ocean waves, or pouring rain and turned up loud. Not perfect but it does help. I know some people find those DAP collars and plug ins and so on helpful. Never did squat for Meg but worth a try.
Looking forward to the next instalment.
Sending love to all three of you ❤️❤️❤️

Great news on all fronts Teri. Sound like Miss Roxy is melting into a spot in your heart.
Do you leave Roxy out while gone or have a doggy door? I work from home but when I do have to go in I either leave a TV on (food channel or something with no dogs on it as Snickers has taken to barking and jumping at the TV)
Not sure why she would be barking unless someone is bothering the house or something outside
And I really love how you are adjusting her to doggy daycare by going with her and staying.. taking it slowly 🙂 That is so awesome.
Love the pictures and your updates

yay. such a nice update on Roxy, Teri. I'm so glad for you and so glad for her because I (we) can feel the joy from reading your posts. I think you have a difficult neighbor.... Seriously - I have total sympathy for people who are afraid of dogs for whatever reason, but it doesn't sound to me from what I've read here that she has a good reason to be afraid of ROXY and so she shouldn't be forcing both of you to adapt to her issues....yikes. sorry, but that's how I feel. I'm a responsible dog owner just like I'm sure you are. There is only so much you can do - don't let her take your joy or create stress for you when you are doing an awesome thing!!!! Of all the things this week and this month that have made me smile your rescuing sweet Roxy is at the top of my list. You go girl. Wait! YOU GO GIRLS!!! good for both of you. She is so, so, sooooooo lucky to have you! Trust your instincts!
