I agree that testing once the medication is out of her system and we're further down the recovery route would be a good idea.

Food and drink wise I would say she's very nearly back to how she was before surgery. Ive been trying to think back to whether she drank "lots" before, i wouldnt say that i noticed an increase but then maybe shes just always drank a lot. Ive never thought to compare it to my other cat Tiger. I will keep trying her with some wet food and see how she gets on.

I'm not entirely sure exactly what they initially said about it as my husband picked her up but it was something along the lines of she will lose or has lost 75% kidney function with levels that high, and they would expect those results.from a much older cat. So I'm not sure if she already has, or if they don't fall then she will. I've been trying to do some research online about kidney disease etc but it's a little tricky when I'm not completely sure what we're dealing with. But either way, it doesn't hurt to read up on it.

Thanks Jackie that would be useful. Penny is a left rear leg amp. I will try and video her tomorrow

This one is even better! Not too long after surgery, he was just ready to meet his brothers without barriers. ❤️

Thanks, Jackie hopefully that will help you see the hop. I watched your video on the blog, and I think it will be a lot like that minus the leg. I understand your concern on the other leg too!

Videos are easy to load to youtube,  then just copy the URL of the video and paste it in the foum, it will appear as soon as you hit submit reply. Let us know if you need help with that. The video of Penny on your blog will not play on Safari but will on Firefox for me (browsers) just fyi a youtube video it will not matter it will play.

Purrkins said
I would keep her on wet food, find any wet cat food she likes and eats that will help!

Great, they are keeping an eye on her than! They could have given a different type of pain meds. I hope tonight goes ok!🙏🤞🏻

I understand what they are are thinking on if the Metacam is causing her being depressed and not wanting to eat but I feel like they could have given you something else! If it does not go well, please ask for a different type of drug.

Everyone's meds are not the same, and I believe too many come home without enough and we were one of those! Purrkins total meds and time are below.

    • 14 days Gabapentin 100 mg capsule – one capsule by mouth every 8 hours
    • 12 days Buprenorphine 0.3 mg every 8-12 hours

I will keep trying with the wet food definitely, hopefully she'll get better with it. It was always something she would refuse previously but I know the extra fluid is better for her kidneys.

I will definitely get some other pain meds sorted if we need them. She's perked up a lot in the last 2 days so I'm optimistic that the pain has eased a decent amount, although not sure she's pain free yet.

Even better then, I'm sorry I had the wrong leg, I don't know why I thought front. Kidney disease is often treated therapeutically with sub q fluids. It helps keep kidneys flushed but it's not a cure. If she gets more hydration even through her food it will help her.

I hope the videos help, I have more if you need.

https://www.fel...../index.htm

check that site out it is the first one that comes to my mind, packed full of info. It does not hurt to read up on it when you are dealing with numbers now. I will look thru my bookmarks see what else I have.

Can't hurt and will likely help! You will find a canned food she likes keep experimenting one will hit! 🤞🏻

Let us know how it goes without the pain meds and if she has an issue I would give her what I had on hand and call in the morning ASAP for something different!

I did hop over tomyour vlog!''YAY for you!  It is saying "waiting moderation" so I think you have to chage the settings or something.

The pictures are so darn cute!

And yeah, every recovery is different and every cat is different.  I agree with Purrkins though, definitely keep an eye out for pain symptoms.  Metacam is great for inflammation but doesn't do much for major surgery pain.

You're dping such a good job!!! REALLY!!

Hugs from all of us to you and Penny!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

So far so good I think. She did wake me up about 5am and I panicked as she had been sick and she's never sick. But once I woke up properly and put my glasses on I realised she had a hairball. Considering the amount grooming she's been doing rather than anything else, I'm not surprised.

The good news is that once I got up and opened her crate she came out straightaway. That's the first time she's done that since the amp was done. Shez had a wander around, used her ramp and is currently sleeping next to my husband on my bedsmileysmiley

It's that time of year here anyway start brushing her that will help her not ingest so much. Glad to hear Penny's sparkle is coming back!

Great sign! Keep it up, Penny!
