I separated his doses of gabapentin and buprenorphine. I actually waited on his middle of the night dose of buprenorphine until 8 this morning. He slept after his 2am gabapentin.
Good job!
has anyone else's cat wanted to play the day after surgery????
Purrkins jumped up into the window the first day home but could not even walk, so yes:) Of course, we had restrictions, no jumping, limited activity, etc., but he was faster than i was. This was the last thing i expected when he could not even take a step. BOINK!
If you can contain Lucky to that room, i WOULD!
All cats, all species are different, just like us humans;)
He found a small ball that I had neglected to pick up in my room preparation and was batting it around. Not sure what to make of this!
nothing to make of this. Lucky being a cat! You smile and say that's my Lucky's sparkle coming back;)
Hugs

Holly, he will be contained to the room until he sees the vet next Friday. It's going to be a chore keeping in as he has already escaped twice. He's a fast one!!!

Good job!
Oh yes, it is a chore we all know! Having 3 does nothing but speed them up;)
Best of Luck, Barb, and i say that with a big grin, ok:) It was a chore for us with Purrkins, too; he insisted he needed to be out of his recovery room, but we are the humans. Yes, it tears at us, but it is for Lucky to heal.
I did carry Purrkins and took him outside for some fresh air, but that was in July;) Do keep him contained until the vet says he is free to be a cat!
Do you have food puzzles or anything to keep him low key entertained?
Hugs & scratches & smooches to Lucky; he is adorable!

Oh my goodness! Lucky is adorable!! So glad we got to see this cuddly handsome boy😊 I love how he's using you as his pillow😎
It's quite amazing to hear how well he is doing just a few days out of surgery. And his incision looks good too!

I’ve noticed that Lucky’s flank where the leg was removed does a quiver every once in awhile. Almost like he’s trying to shake his leg backwards like they do when they get their paws wet. He doesn’t show any pain when doing it and it’s there and then gone. Any feedback on this?

Yep, it's pretty standard for amputees, like a visual clue that the brain and muscle are having a short circuit. As far as I understand it's not painful or phantom leg pain .
Our Wyatt's stump twitch happened at least once a day but he never gave indicators that it was painful to him. Usually it was a signal that we needed to go scratch his neck or shoulders, since his "ghost leg" wasn't able to get the job done.

It is very common with cats who have lost a hind leg to try to scratch their ear and neck with the missing leg, its just force of habit. The best thing to do is to quickly scratch for them, they are ever so grateful.
