Thanks for the words of encouragement! And yes so true benny, I find myself trying to do some gymnastic balancing techniques to hold mew in cat burrito form upward and still, while also holding her mouth open with one hand and pill gun in the other.
Jackie, you are an angel that saved the day. Truly! I have now given her three successful doses in a row, although mew is becoming a bit more difficult.
I make sure I feed her 20 minutes before her dosing time, sometimes she eats a lot sometimes a little but as long as she eats anything. I put the tiniest bit of butter on the outside of the capsule before dosing, place into the gun. I have a bowl of water and a small syringe full of water ready to go. I wrap her in a burrito and cradle her in my arms like a baby because otherwise if I place her on the floor she will gain traction with her foot even while wrapped up and wiggle her way out. She's starting to stick her face in my armpit in protest and won't budge at all. She looks so cute but I feel so bad for the poor thing. I wish I could tell her we're almost done.
I give her a little bit of water first in case her mouth is dry. I balance her on my lap so she's at an upright position and use my left hand to open her mouth while having the pill gun ready to go in my right hand and pop the pill in. I hold her mouth closed and blow in her face a little and stroke the throat, and she's been swallowing the pill pretty fast lately. If not I've been squirting the tiniest bit of water into the side of her mouth like Jackie said while still holding it closed and that usually does the trick. I would say it's been very important putting the pill in the middle/back of her mouth because if it's too much to one side she will start to chew it. So with a bit of luck I hope we can finish the rest of her meds before we know it!
