This is awesome! Everyone is right, Huck looks so handsome. You would never know this little one was ever feral. What a sweetheart!
I never got the bandanna for the Bunnyman since I knew I could never get it on him.
I am so happy for Huck that he found you guys!
BTW, did the little itchy bumps go away?
Rusty "The Bunnyman" adopted us in 2014. Aug/Sept 2017, back left leg amputated (HSA cancer). He remained cancer free over 900 days. Cancer returned as of emergency visit on day 931. 15 days later, he gained his wings 04/18/2020 due to congestive heart failure. He will always watch over his fellow tripawds and their hoomins with Head Scritches and Sand Paper Kisses.
I keep his bandanna on the cat tree that they all LOVE. I figured after a while it would pick up their scent and he wouldn't freak so much with it near him. It worked
I think those bumps were a reaction from when he was outside and infested with fleas. I really fought whether to bring him in for a steroid injection because I think he has seen enough of hospitals for a little while. I kept a close eye on it and little by little they got tiny scabs on them and almost all of them are gone. I spoke with the vet that is seeing Andy and she said between the fleas and the mites he probably had it was probably a sensitive area and might take a while for him to calm down, almost like it had become a behavioral habit. I think he is going to be ok His ears are cleaner than mine are lol, and his skin is not red or broken out ... whew. I really didn't want to put him through another process again, not yet.
Andy is going back for a recheck this morning. I am keeping all of my fingers and toes crossed that his urine has gone back to normal.
SO GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU!!! How is Rusty man doing??
Big hugs and much love,
Jackie

Rusty is doing great. He knows he owns the house, us, our guests... and is absorbing every bit of lovin's he can get. My mom came to visit last week and he slept with his grandma, purring up a storm.
We are getting ready for our holiday travels which will keep us away for a little more than a week. We have our family friend, his Auntie Barb, that will stop over and take care of him but we are feeling a little guilty. He has become such a little cuddle bug!!!

Oh us too! Going to New England to see my folks and the grandkids. I'm worried sick over leaving him. Part of me just can't wait for the new year to be here and life go back to normal so I can anticipate spring 🌷🌷
Merry Christmas and Hoppy New Year! Be safe in your travels and the BIGGEST of hugs to all of you 💛

Prince Huckleberry! You look so very handsome in your Bandanna! Yello is definitely your colour! I do hope you get comfy soon, sweetheart, there’s nothing worse than an itch that won’t go away heh?!
Merry Christmas to you all and all the very best in the new year! Safe travels.

Huckleberry's itch is finally under control. We believe he was having a reaction to the infestation of fleas that he USED to have. He is just doing wonderful
My husband just brought Andy to the vets and after a 2 week shot that he was given almost 3 weeks ago, his urine is FULL of struvite crystals I am SO UPSET!!!!! He got another shot today, we recheck him in 2 weeks again. I had mixed his prescription diet with a low cal high fiber diet made by the same company, Royal Canin and evidently this may be why. I spoke with a tech from Royal Canin and she said even though the high fiber diet is good, we are going to have to be totally strict with Andy's diet because of his sensitivity. OMG!!! This is the THIRD cat I have had with urinary problems. My Gazoo ended up with a p.u. surgery because even meds and diet did not stop him from blocking. Falcor did ok most of the time.
So... we are back to square one with Andy. My eyes are just filling up typing this. If he has to have p.u. surgery it will be about another $3000.00. I need to see if we can get this under control with diet. As bad as I feel about not giving treats to Huck and Oscar, I am going to have to be a hard @$$.
Please wish us luck, Andy is such a good boy

Really glad to hear about Huckleberry but so sorry about Andy! Three cats with this condition? Did all cats have it at the same time? I'm wondering about their kitty litter. Could that have anything to do with it? Not knowing a ton about kitties or the condition, I did come across this Dr. Elsey's Senior kitty litter at a vet conference that is supposed to help prevent it. You think maybe this might help too?

Hiya Rene, Huckleberry was so good for his "photo session" last night 🙂
I wish litter would make a difference, it has nothing to do with it, really. Some say that scented litters can give them a higher risk for urinary tract infections. High PH levels in their body is what make them create crystals. The PH levels in the urine is related to their diet. Crystals, in large numbers, are like beach sand. When they create enough crystals they settle over the opening of the urethra and create a mucus like "plug" stopping them from being able to pass urine. It is always the boy cats that block because their opening is so much smaller. The special urinary diets are formulated to stop them from having high PH levels so that they won't form crystals in the urine. I was stupid to think that even though it was a good reputable food it would be ok to give it to him.
Falcor, Gazoo, and Andy never got to meet. Falcor passed in the early 90's. Gazoo passed 2 years ago. Andy was adopted 2 years ago after Gazoo passed. Gazoo was brought in as a euthanasia back in 2001 at the animal hospital I worked at because he couldn't pee. His bladder was the size of a tangerine and his body temp was 96 when he was brought in. He was only 2 years old and the people that owned him could not afford to unblock him. He almost died. I adopted him after we unblocked him with his previous owner's blessing. I thought I knew what I was getting into with him because of Falcor, and being a vet tech has true advantages to affordable health care. Anyhow, Gazoo blocked 7 more times, once with a catheter inside of him while he was on antibiotics. He is the one that had the p.u. surgery. He never had a problem after that. Andy scares me because he does not show traditional signs of a kitty blocking. Most of them will pace back and forth to the cat box and pee just a few drops, sometimes it is bloody. Andy was just fine as ever when I went to bed one night, and I woke to find him in a fetal position panting and crying. It was so strange that I didn't even know he was blocked until we rushed him in and the doc did a physical on him.
Sorry, I am rambling on. If we cannot get him regulated with diet, then surgery or euthanasia are the options. I will not put him to sleep because of this. He is such a sweet and gentle soul, after having a first few years of life he deserves better than that. Besides... he is my feral kitty whisperer, right? We will get through this one way or the other.
Sending big hugs and smooches for your beautiful pup,
Jackie

For anybody interested, this site has some really good information on understanding feline urinary problems, also known as FUS (old school), and FLUTD (modern term)

You are NOT rambling at all!!!! You KNOW you are among friends and you KNOW the value of, not only GIVING support, vut being avle to RECEIVE support too!! To be dealing with this again with Andy has to be frustrating beyond words!!
A couple of things are worthy of pointing out though. THIS situation does not necessarily equal THAT......"that" being the situation YEARS ago eith you're beloved Falcor and Gazoo. Even though Andy is still having issues, you sre staying on top of things and you are armed eith more up to date information than back then.
Make no mistake about it, your stress level is heightened ( not only because of the past), but because you are going away for the holidays! Look at it this way, if you did not have the history with this darn stuff and if you were not going away, wouldn't you be feeling a lot more optimistic than you are now? I'm guessing the answer would be, probably. You are certainly knowledgeable about this and that helps you stay ahead of the eight ball. The food changes may be EXACTLY what's needed to bring things into balance!
YES, YOU ANDY WILL INDEED GET THROUGH THIS!! Everyone here knows that with absolute certainty! 🙂 🙂 🙂 I know it doesn't help because WE know that, but through the magic of "empowering conviction transference" ( a power only held by your Tripad Family), we are transferring that belief to you!! STAND DALL....DEEP BREATH....GET READY......HERE IT COMES!! BAM!! It's now installed!! 🙂
Lpts of love and hugs

You are great, thank you so much! After I got home and got unwound from the day I spent a little time checking Andy Panda and his behavior. He looks like he is doing ok. He did his normal "run and hide under our bed" when David let him out of the carrier. Huck usually goes in behind him and gives him a once over bath and then he relaxes. It is kinda cool to see the role reversal, Huck needed so much when he first came in and now he doesn't mind giving it back. He really adores Andy.
About an hour after I got home, Andy had made it to the top (6 ft) of the kitty tower and was just chilling out. Made me feel better to see that he was ok. He is such a sensitive cat, sometimes things like vet visits or sudden changes really mess him up. He was never like that with Huck though. He just went into stealth mode until he knew the coast was clear. He is very protective of Huckleberry.
I feel better with Andy getting a shot of antibiotics. One of my worst fears is missing a blockage and him dying because we were too late. With the antibiotics on board I think he will be ok. In 2 weeks we will retest his urine. I have switched out their food and we will have to be very strict about no treats at all. Nothing by mouth except for the prescription diet, poor babies. It beats the alternative though.
Thank you for being so kind, I really appreciate your words of encouragement. They came at a most needed time.

Glad to see you're feeling more "in the flow". It always helps our attitude when iur cats and dogs do their "normal" things.:-)
I loved the visual of how Andy and Huckleberry interact when David let Andy out of the carrier. Sweet.
Andy has the care he needs and everything possible that can be done IS being done. He will be absolutely fine while you are in New Englad for the holidays!
Lots of hugs!

Jackie, thanks for clarifying about the FUS condition. You are sooo knowledgeable, I have no doubt that the treatments and care you give Andy will be just what he needs to recover and be healthy for life. He's a lucky kitty to have you. Glad to hear he's got the meds and his spunky personality is still there.
P.S. you were not rambling, promise!

Thank you I am so glad that Huck and Andy have befriended each other the way that they have. It is the same thing Andy did with Oscar. Oscar is starting to come around, if he could get over his gorgeous important old self he will be fine, lol.
What was that song?? Oh yeah.. "I'm too sexy for my fill in the blank " ... that's my Oscar. I try not to tell him how pawsitively gorgeous he is because I am afraid one of these days his head will not fit through the door, lol. He looks like a MOO purr COW meow, lol
