My 4 year old cat had hind leg amputation 4 days ago. She had a nocita injection and started her buprenorphine twice a day on day 3 post op. It didn't seem to be enough so i called and they added some onsior. I can tell she is still miserable. They never mentioned gabapentin but I think I need to request it. This is all so heartbreaking! Also, they only gave me 5 days worth of buprenorphine, should I request more in addition to adding gabapentin? Help!
I'm so sorry to hear she is still uncomfortable. What kind of pain signals is she showing?
yes I would give the vet a call if the Onsior hasn't kicked in.
Sorry to make this quick, I'll be back tomorrow with more feedback.

Hello & Welcome
What is your cat's name? I'm sorry to hear your kitty is having pain.
Yes, no hesitation; call your vet! I hope you have? Explain in detail what you are seeing. Yes, I would ask for Gabapentin.

Yes, we'll be waiting for your feedback after ro read the appt on links Holly provided
You're in the hardest part of recovery right now, especially with all the strong hospital meds/injection out of her system. This is when proper pain management becomes crucial.
Deep breaths...recovery does last furever.

Yes, definitely give yourself permission to call the vet as often as you need to, for help with pain control. Be the squeaky wheel and don’t ever feel bad about it. No two cats (or people for that matter) are the same in terms of pain tolerance, so perhaps yours just needs more. My cat is six weeks post op, and still doing daily Gabapentin for discomfort, but his comfort is really all that matters to me and my vet is super supportive. I assume others have probably told you this, but it’s critical to stick to the pill schedule to the minute. It’s much easier to stay ahead of pain then to try and get it calmed down. I usually set a timer on my cell, even if it means waking up at 3am.
