Hi, my cat is about to have his front right leg removed due to a soft tissue sarcoma. He always goes to the toilet outside and always digs a hole for going to the toilet (pee and poo). Afterwards, he always covers over the hole. Obviously, i will be keeping him indoors for a couple of weeks, whilst he recovers from his amputation. However, i'm hoping that he'll be able to still dig in the garden after he's recovered. Any advice or stories? Many thanks!
Hi Sandy, welcome! We are sorry your cat needs the amputation but glad you found us.
Cats don't seem to have too much of a problem with this. See our Litterbox Tips post for some ideas about helping him through the recovery process.
How old/young is he? Younger cats, or overweight ones, tend to fall down and have occasional face plants at first, but as they get stronger these incidents diminish.
You may want to consider building a Catio space for him. These enclosures are wonderful ways to keep cats protected yet still allow them to enjoy being outside.
Fang is one of our most memorable Tripawds members who lived his life outdoors. His blog is excellent reading!
Thank you very much for your reply. My cat, Sandy, is 6 years old and of normal weight for his size. He's not keen on a using a litter tray. So after a previous biopsy, I have been in the garden with him on a lead to allow him to do his business. Thank you for the extra reading suggestions.
Hahaha....no not your link eevver! I was typoing the link to kitty littertips that you already had done. I came back to delete my sent post that had already posted. The "link" was just to the Tripawds forum page and not the specific thread I was trying to link. I didn't think I had erased it, so I typed another one saying to ignore post.
I know! Clear as mud!!!! Being so techie sometimes iss exhausting!!! 😡 Sorry for the confusion.😥 And if you evvvver see where I post something that says "ignore" your link, just cart me off to the funny farm immediately!!!!
