Thank you, Susan!  And I agree, our pets are worth more than 10 vacations.  We are looking for every avenue possible to pull the money together.  The vet that administered the vaccine is helping us with the vaccine company and MSU agreed to write us a letter so we can apply for some help from various funds.  We will also try to take out a loan for any remaining balance.  I've gone through and canceled everything that was a luxury for us.  I had a wine subscription from my favorite Michigan winery, and when I explained we were only canceling because we were cutting back to pay for our cat's cancer treatment, they sent me a wonderful note and a free bottle of wine.  They were all cat people at the winery and completely understood why I needed to cancel.  That small gesture made my day.

Charlie update: His culture came back and he had to have an additional antibiotic added to the list of his medications.  There were two bacteria strains present and the broad spectrum antibiotic he's been taking only covered one of the two.  They think that all of the necrotic tissue has declared itself and has been resected, and they believe things should be getting better from here.  Charlie still needs bandages sewn on everyday, so I drop him off before work and pick him up on my way home.  We're still trying to focus on just one thing at a time and get Charlie ready to start the next phase of treatment.

Glad to hear it looks like the incision/skin is healing.  Charlie needs a good break and maybe this is a good sign that things are getting better......and will stay thst way! 🙂

One step at a time.  Continue to keep things chunked down.  You're doing such a good job!!! Applause to you.....and Charlie too!! 🙂

Hugs

I am very late to your post but so glad you found us as you can see your not alone ! We are in Michigan too;)

Charlie looks like a absolute sweetheart! You guys have had a tough road!

I see your in good hands at MSU! Our cat Purrkins had a Soft Tissue Sarcoma on his front left leg we had his amp & oncology check ups are at MSU! He is over one year post amp & doing great.

I am sorry your are dealing with a VAS I hate that this happens to so many cats! It’s so unfair when all we are doing is what we are told & its suppose to be for our cats! It is never the owners fault that VAS happens I blame the companies & for not making changes!

Things have to change for all felines!! We used to do Titers and when Purrkins got his STS I do not vaccinate Purrkins or his brother  anymore! If Charlie is indoor only then you really do have options! You can get waivers too if need be!!

Have they been successful in helping you with getting reimbursement started? Another thing to think about to help in finances is to start a go fund me page. There are a lot of people who need help paying these bills you most certainly are not alone. Something to think about you !  Any amount raised would be of help & one less concern!

How is Charlie doing on the new antibiotic? I hope things have gotten better for you guys & your past the daily bandage changes etc.

Seeing pawsitive thoughts and good ju ju your way!

Let us know how things are going when you get a chance! You find out you are stronger then you realize thru this crap! We find strength we didn't know we had!
Heal well Charlie!

Hugs!
Holly & Purrkinsheart
