All dogs come to us for a reason and as this pawesome Tripawd Roxy Roo rescue story shows, this sweet girl and her mom Kat were meant to be together at a time when they both needed extra TLC. Here’s their heartfelt Tripawd Tuesday story Kat shared with us.
Meet Roxy Roo, the Fearless Tripawd
This dynamic duo is from Denver, Colorado. You’ll see why that’s important to mention when you check out the photo below!
How old is your Tripawd?
- About 6
When and Why did your Tripawd lose a leg?
- Roxy came into a Texas border rescue as a stray with a broken hip and leg that could not be saved. We don’t know what caused her injury. When animal control caught her they noticed how sweet she was so rather than euthanize her, they contacted a rescue (@TracysPawsRescue) who took her in and raised funds for her surgery.
- After losing my soul puppy, Lola, and overcoming divorce and breast cancer I was finally ready to add a pup to my pack to help my aging Pomeranian, Chloe, stay active.I found Roxy on their Petfinder page and her sweet face spoke to me.
- Tracy’s Paws transported her and several other dogs 900 miles to Colorado where their new families eagerly awaited. The second we met, she bowed her head and tucked herself into my arms. It was love at first sniff. We’ve healed our physical scars together and we continue to love our way through life.
What are your Tripawd’s favorite things to do?
- Roxy loves face scritches, napping, hunting small creatures (much to her mama’s horror!), cuddle, and protecting her family.
Is there any special gear that helped or helps your Tripawd?
- Lots of love and leg massages.
If you went through amputation surgery recovery with your animal, what did you think would happen after surgery? Did your worst fears happen? How did you cope?
- I was recovering from surgery related to breast cancer and Roxy was fresh from her amputation when we came into each other’s lives. We healed together, and continue to do so every day.
What is the biggest lesson you learned from your Tripawd?
- Gratitude.
What is your best advice to someone who is about to go through amputation with their pet, or someone who is thinking of adopting a Tripawd?
- Don’t hesitate. The only limit a Tripawd truly faces is their human’s fear. They are fearless creatures when we encourage them to be.
