Today we are looking back on the long, beautiful legacy of a Tripawd miniature Schnauzer named Piper. This happy boy spent almost thirteen years on three legs. Incredible!

Piper spent 13 years on three legs!

This sweet cancer warrior was from Tennessee, and his momma Kelly recently wrote to us to share his celebration of life story. She also told us:

Your community was a huge source of comfort to us as we were learning to navigate his cancer and amputation. Thank you for the good work that you do.

It’s our honor to be part of Piper’s three-legged journey in some small way. He goes to show all the doubters out there that it is totally possible to live a long, healthy life on three legs. We hope you find as much inspawration from his story as we do!

How old is your Tripawd?

How did your Tripawd adapt to life on three?

  • Amazing. My nephew always said “fastest dog on 3 legs”!

What are your Tripawd’s favorite things to do?

  • Chase frisbee and snuggle with his favorite girl
Piper plays with his frisbee in the backyard.

What did you think would happen after surgery? Did your worst fears happen? How did you cope?

  • Was worried he wouldn’t learn to walk well. But he never missed a beat!

What is the biggest lesson you learned from your Tripawd?

  • I was very vigilant in what I fed my dogs after his diagnosis but the biggest lesson is that dogs are amazing and love life.

What is your best advice to someone who is about to go through amputation with their pet, or someone who is thinking of adopting a Tripawd?

  • Do it! They are amazing and adapt so well!
