Animal shelters are exploding right now, with too many animals and not enough homes for them. When stories like Mizakeen’s cross our paths, we hop for joy knowing there’s one less Tripawd in search of pawesome people to love and care for them. What better way to start today than with her Gotcha story!
Today’s Tripawd Tuesday Welcomes Mizakeen to the Community!
How can anyone resist adopting a Tripawd? Mizakeen’s people couldn’t and now this lucky girl has a great life in Southern California! Here is her story as told by her human, Sandy.
How old is your Tripawd?
- Two years old
When and Why did your Tripawd lose a leg?
- I don’t know. We adopted her and her leg was dragging and dead, so we took her to our vet and he recommended that it be removed
How did your Tripawd adapt to life on three?
- When we got her she was already only using three legs so she has had no problem physically with the leg being removed
What are your Tripawd’s favorite things to do?
- Play with toys. She throws them up in the air, catches them and then just shakes them.
Is there any special gear that helped or helps your Tripawd?
- Not yet but I think I’m the future we will have to get some. We did get her a raised food dish
If you went through amputation surgery recovery with your animal, what did you think would happen after surgery? Did your worst fears happen? How did you cope?
- I knew she would be okay physically but it was the mental part I was afraid of. In 2 months. She had been left at a shelter for 9 days adopted by strange people, spayed and then had her leg removed. She is the queen of resilience.
Did you adopt a Tripawd? If so, why? Tell us your pet’s Gotcha Day story.
- I adopted her because I knew she was in a bad place and she needed good people in her life. Someone who would take care of her
What is the biggest lesson you learned from your Tripawd?
- People are the one who have problems with a three-legged dog, not dogs or her.
What is your best advice to someone who is about to go through amputation with their pet, or someone who is thinking of adopting a Tripawd?
- Do your research and make sure that having a tripod is for you but in the end remember they are just like any other dog they want to give love and be loved
