It’s a new year and another chance to add to the amazing Tripawd Tuesday stories that give us all hope and inspawration, like this one about Tripawd Tucker, Mr. Squirrel Patrol!
How old is your Tripawd?
9.5
When and Why did your Tripawd lose a leg?
July 12, 2023 due to osteosarcoma
How did your Tripawd adapt to life on three?
He is still adapting, but has mastered going up and down stairs quite well
What are your Tripawd’s favorite things to do?
Chase squirrels
Was there any special gear that helped your Tripawd?
A harness, plus booties and a leg sleeve, as he continues to lick his good front leg. We laid down carpet runners everywhere in the house for him as well.
If you went through amputation surgery recovery with your animal, what did you think would happen after surgery? Did your worst fears happen? How did you cope?
I was not sure what would happen, I was worried he would not make it out of surgery as he is older and a bit overweight, but he survived, although it did take awhile to heal as he got two secondary infections at the surgery site. It was stressful, but we took turns sleeping with him in the living room as he was unable to do the stairs at that time.
What is the biggest lesson you learned from your Tripawd?
That animals are so resilient, and put faith in the power of love.
What is your best advice to someone who is about to go through amputation with their pet, or someone who is thinking of adopting a Tripawd?
Amputation saved his life, I would do it again. You need to have patience, and let your dog adapt to his new life.

Our dog boo-boo is also 9 and lost has back leg. We were also worried about his age and the strength of his other back leg. It was great to hear that Tucker can do the stairs! And I appreciated the “ be patient “ part. I find myself often worrying.
