Sweet Tonka the Miracle Tripawd: He Barely Survived the Awful Accident!
Tonka is a two year old pit bull that has had a few tough breaks. Tonka was born with multiple congenital heart defects requiring surgery at an early age and for him to be on medication for the remainder of his life. When Tonka was 1 he met his forever mommy at the shelter. Shortly after being adopted a tragic accident occurred.
Despite Tonka being secured in the backseat, he managed to press on the window to roll it down all the way and jumped out while the car was going about 50mph. His mom brought him directly to the emergency department where Tonka was diagnosed with brachial plexus avulsion. Tonka stayed in the ICU for a week and received intense rehabilitation to try and regain movement of his right front forelimb. Unfortunately, there was no improvement. Due to Tonka’s heart conditions, amputation was considered to be a high risk surgery and his family.
Tried every option available to Avoid having this done. However, Tonka would bite at his limb that wasn’t working causing infections. Tonka finally received the surgery and with his cardiologist and surgeons expertise he made it through the surgery with flying colors and is now thriving being a tripod!! What a miracle puppy!
