Dr. Jaffe did Chuy's FHO surgery 6 weeks ago and was wonderful throughout the entire thing. His staff treats Chuy as if he were their own dog! The Animal Referral & Emergency Center of Arizona in Mesa also has other specialists such as Oncology and Cardiology, along with emergency medicine. If you are in Arizona or just visiting and need an excellent vet I highly recommend these folks.

Chuy, showing everyone that Tripawds do everything 3 times better than regular dogs!
Thanks for the referral! Looks like Chuy is in good hands there.

Prelude: Dr. Beth Hareski at Horizon Animal Hospital (Scottsdale) did Dixie's surgery. They did not have overnight care, and sent her home within hours of her waking up from surgery. Dixie had terrible dysphoria. She seemed to have trouble breathing and was very confused – vocalizing a lot. After struggling to get her out of the car and into the house, we turned around and put her back in the car and drove as fast as we could to the Emergency Hospital. It was quite tramatic. You can read more here. I would not recommend Horizon Animal Hospital for amputation surgery.

The Good Stuff:
I just wanted to give props to the emergency hospital – North Valley Regional Animal Hospital – Union Hills & 7th Ave in Phoenix. They were SO gentle with us, and Dixie. They took a lot of time to discuss our situation and their plan of attack. They were also very patient with us. They didn't get annoyed with my "I just want to check in" phone calls. We felt like we connected with Dr. Lunt. Turns out he like snowboarding, like us, and grew up here, like I did. He also went to veterinary school with our regular vet (not the one that did the surgery) at CSU in Fort Collins. Dr. Lunt even stayed passed his shift to greet us in the morning when we picked up Dixie. Anyway, we might start going there exclusively. Closer to home, and we just felt safe there.

As the hospital manager for Horizon Animal Hospital I would like to extend our deepest apologies for you experience following Dixie’s surgery. I was unaware of your concerns until I came across this post and your blog which I have shared with the team as a tool for growth.
It is our hope that Dixie is doing well now.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Todd, CVPM
