Meet Dr. Mike Sagman, founder and editor of the DogFoodAdvisor.com, a comprehensive resource for dog guardians filled with objective, impartial and unbiased articles and reviews that help pawrents make more informed decisions about the best healthy dog food to buy.
Dr. Sagman is a consumer advocate and an expert at reading and interpreting pet food labels. He became impassioned about learning about pet food ingredients after his dog Penny lost her life because of contaminated dog food with inferior ingredients in 2007.
He is a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia and holds a doctoral degree in dental surgery. His major in major in chemistry and a minor in biology laid the groundwork for his extensive knowledge about pet food ingredients and how to interpret scientific language on pet food labels.

I just saw this! It says SATURDAY on the top of the homepage, FYI....
Yes, I would like to know his opinion of my diet for my dogs. When Raven got cancer, I started thinking about the fact that the zoo animals that I'm involved with rarely get cancer, but our pets always do if they live long enough it seems. Zoo animals, being non-domestic, are on raw meat diets made specifically for them. There's a feline (lions, tigers, etc), canine (wolves, fox, jackal, etc), bird of prey (eagle, hawks) version.
When Raven was starting to turn his nose up at dog food, I started using the Nebraska Brand Feline Diet that I have on hand, which is the consistency of hamburger, mixed into his food to encourage him eating. He loved it. So, I ordered Canine Diet from Nebraska and this is what Miles has now been on since I adopted him. Since he's domesticated, I assume his GI tract has adapted to a lower protein/higher carb requirement? So, I add about 50% pasta, which we don't with zoo carnivores. But otherwise, I was afraid it would end up being a bit of a weight loss diet, such as Atkinsons.
Here is the ingredient breakdown and guaranteed analysis:

I would love their opinion on this.
Thanks!

We just scoured the Tripawds home page and the News Blog index, and all the announcements say Sunday. Then we noticed and fixed the date under the banner on the Forums and Chat pages. Thanks for pointing that out!
We'll try to boil down your comment to a succinct question. Or, please feel free to call in and Ask Dr Sagman about your specific concerns.
Anypawdy else have questions for the show tomorrow (Sunday April 17)? We'll update this topic after the show with a program podcast.

Missed this one...nap time.
Was there anything about rollie pollie bugs being nutritious? Monkeybaby loves them!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Many thanks to Dr. Sagman for this informative interview! Here are just a few highlights...
The top three questions/concerns about your dog food:
- Do you want to feed wet, dry or raw?
- Question content! Find out more at dogfoodadvisor.com
- Favor meat, more importantly disfavor carbohydrates!
The three main dog foog ingredients include proteins, fat, & carbs (the only nonessential ingredient)
Hot Topic: Are dogs omnivore or carnivore?
- Omnivores wit strong carnivore bias
- They are scavengers, without grinding molars
The closer to our natural diet our dogs eat, the better.
- Favor more natural diet.
- Kibble is the furthest thing from a dog's natural diet.
- Raw fresh food is best.
About dehydrated fresh/raw dog foods:
- Processed fresh/raw food is better than any kibble!
- Freeze dried better and safer than heat dried
Recommended Feeding Methods:
- "Topping" – add premium canned, raw or table scraps to good kibble.
- "Rotation feeding" – Changing a dog's diet is OK!
