Today we are celebrating Smokey's 3 month ampuversary - since going through our situation, we decided that we are going to make every milestone we cross a celebration and he felt today should be one of those 🙂
On Sunday we head down to his grandparent's house - they haven't seen him since right after the surgery and I know they are just going to be amazed! He is still doing so incredibly well - we stopped by the vet yesterday for a nail trim and he was so excited he could barely stand it! There was a gentleman in the waiting room that Smokey felt he needed to hop over and plop down right in front of him, on his back, so he could get his tummy rubbed - he's so silly 🙂
I hope that everyone is doing well and Smokey continues to send his good thoughts to everyone facing and going through similar situations.
Thanks again for everyone's thoughts and kind words while we were thinking about going ahead with the amputation and then everything thereafter. This continues to be the best website!
Pam and Tazzie - thank you so much for remembering! I've been horrible about updating lately - we finished the first rounds of the melanoma vaccine - 4 shots in 8 weeks - and now I guess we go back every six months to continue the shots (which my vet and I weren't aware of - we thought it was only the 4). Once we get closer to May we'll do x-rays to check things out and then if all is good, another shot.
What's weird is that as excited as I was to finish the first 4, I was really nervous on that final day... part of me was worried that without actively doing something for him, that would cause harm. But a friend of mine said that the vaccine is like boxing gloves and it'll keep punching and knocking out all those cancer cells in the meantime :).
Tazzie's 3 month falls on a great day - Smokey's grandma's birthday! How is Tazzie doing?
Hey Smokey, just thinking of you today on another big anniversary! Seven months, right? Congratulations my friend! Cheers!!!

Thank you!!!! Yes, today marks the 7 month ampuversary 🙂 and he is just hyper as ever and having fun! He's quite the spoiled one though, napping on our comfy bed, but he deserves it... we'll be swinging by our vet's office today for a quick weigh in (he's gained some weight over the past few months so he's back on a diet and our vet wants to make sure he keeps the weight down to help him get around easier) and then I know this sounds horrible, but every ampuversary we go through his favorite restaurant (McDonald's!) for a plain hamburger. 🙂
