Hi, everyone-
Our dear Blackjack took a turn for the worse last night. He went for his last round of carboplatin yesterday afternoon. On the way home, he threw up in the car. Then, after drinking most of his water from his bowl when we got home, he threw that up, as well. He also started panting a lot, which got worse over the next couple of hours. We called the emergency room and took him in. His temp was up, so they gave him a dose of antibiotics and some Benadryl just in case he was having some sort of allergic reaction. They wound up doing x-rays (which we had decided not to do on his visit earlier), which showed some air in his belly (the vet thought it was from hyperventilating) and that he did, indeed, have mets in his lungs. She didn't think the mets were responsible for his breathing difficulties, though. They put him in an oxygen chamber and gave him pain meds, as well, since he was moaning. Nothing really helped him, so, after seeing him in so much discomfort, we helped him on his way to the spirit world early this morning. It was so hard to watch him go so quickly after how well he had been doing since his surgery. We are sad, angry, but also relieved that he is no longer so distressed. I guess we thought the end would look much different than it did (who knows how the end will ever look?) He was such a happy and joyful dog who wanted to be everyone's friend and who just took it for granted that everyone wanted to be his friend, as well. And, they did! We want to thank all of you who made our journey over the past few months much easier than it would have been without you. It gives us comfort to know that he has many spirit tripawd friends to "hang with" now. We will keep in touch and keep praying for everyone else who is living with these challenges. Blackjack would want me to tell you, "Keep on keepin' on. Go, Tripawds!"

Bless you for taking such good care of your baby BlackJack. One of the terrible things about this damned disease is how quickly it can take turns for the worst. Please know that sharing your experiences here you are certain to help others who will go through it with there own dogs. Thank you.

Honoring her life by opening our hearts & home to Addy!
Dear Nancy,
I am so sorry you had to say "good-bye for now" to your beloved Blackjack. I'm sure he is grateful to be released from his broken body and will be running and playing with all of our former tripawds now. May peace surround you and your family, even in your sorrow. Try to picture Blackjack whole and running and happy because it's true. Know that we all feel your sorrow and this community is here for you.

Dear Nancy,
I am so sorry to hear the news about Blackjack! It's just not fair that they can't live as long as we do. She is at peace now and no longer in pain. Someone told me a while back when she lost her dog, it's the price we pay for the years of love...
thinking of you,
Holly
Dear Nancy,
Sorry that your Blackjack had to leave you. He sounded like a really wonderful boy. He knows how much you loved him by giving him all the care that you did. Your life can only be richer for having such love too share. Let your memories and good times console you now as you miss his earthly presence. Till you meet again...
Condolences,

Dear Nancy, so sorry to hear about Blackjack! It is very hard and my pawrents felt the same way you did, sad, angry but at the same time peaceful that I was not in pain any longer. It has been a few months that I went to the Rainbow Bridge to meet my tripawds friends and wait for my pawrents and some days are harder for my Mom than others, but hang in there in knowing that Blackjack knew you did everything in your heart to make him better and be free of pain. Our love and prayers are with you, love Kellie

Someone wrote on here once, "grieve gently" and I loved that for it conveys the message to be gentle to yourself while you grieve - it's a unique and individual process for everyone. My heart hurts for you, we are so sorry about losing Blackjack. Be at peace for you gave your baby the most selfless and loving gift there is to our beloved fur ones - freedom from pain. You will meet again and in the meantime, yes...the tripawd pack was waiting for him to welcome Blackjack into their special spirit circle.
Blessings,
