Yesterday at my dogs 2 week post-op appt. we talked about chemotherapy. For our little guy the cancer was not coming from a long bone which is where mostly where RBC are made. His is coming from the scapula bone and not many RBC are made there. So from my understanding the chances of his cancer spreading is way less than 50%. We have elected not to do the chemotherapy for this reason. We will be taking him in every 2-3 months for exrays to make sure everything still looks good. I was just wondering if anyone else has been in the same situation and what you chose to do. I'm happy with our decision but I just was wondering if anyone had any thoughts.

We didn't do chemo either. Our Vet recommended it but we decided to treat using homeopathy and some other supplements. We were all set to do chemo and then I started researching it further and for our family it wasn't the right choice. It's a personal decision and as everyone here has told me there isn't a wrong decision if you're making it with love. If you are interested in Homeopathy we use Dr. Loops in NC. He consults with you over the phone. Good luck!

Hi there and welcome.
What kind of cancer are you dealing with? If it's osteo, where did you read/here that scapula tumors = less chances of spreading?
Chemo is such a personal decision, it's not right for every dog and it's OK if you choose not to proceed with it. When it comes down to it, survival rates are luck of the draw with or without going through chemo. You just never know. I hope that your pup has lots and lots of great time ahead though!
What's your pup's name? Tell us more about him, we'd love to hear.

As long as your decision was made with great information and a warm heart, you can't go wrong! Best wishes!!!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
