Titan had his 5th chemo session today. The oncologist did a chest xray and bloodwork. He said everything looked good. Finally some happy news!

Thanks for everyone's support!

Yay Titan!  I knew he would be fine!  How many treatments does he have left?

I talked to Tazzie's oncologist today and we will do a total of 5 carboplatin injections for her since she is doing well. Chemo #4 will be this weekend.

I got a message from the oncologist tonight. They want to repeat Titan's xrays in 3 weeks. There is a spot that they aren't sure is to do with his rib or if it artificial or the cancer. Whatever it is they say is not significant. Now I am starting to freak out a little bit. Just hoping it is nothing....Pam have you ever heard of this?

Did they send the films to a veterinary radiologist? Chest films can be hard to read because even a little shadow is suspect when they are looking for cancer.  There is an area called the costochondral junction which is where the ribcage meets the sternum and you can often see shadows here.  Tazzie had a few small spots called osteomas which are benign little areas of scar tissue in her lung. She is so big that we had to take 6 radiographs to fit all of her lung tissue on film, and I sent them to a radiologist just to be sure and he agreed that the spots were not cancer nodules.

Your oncologist is probably just being careful, and it is smart to recheck the radiographs in 2-4 weeks.  If the spot is gone then it was just a shadow, and if it is unchanged it can be monitored.  If it is larger then cancer is possible.  It is hard to wait but the only other way to image the lung is with MRI or CT scan which requires anesthesia and may not be readily available.  I would see what the oncologist says in a few weeks and consider sending the films to a radiologist if they are still unclear.

We will be wishing for the best for our big friend!

Thank you everyone for helping not to FREAK...I was paniked Friday and then talked to Jim on chat which made me put things in perspective. Thank you Pam I am so happy you wrote a response. I know they are just being careful which I should be happy about. I hope it is just a shadow since it is near the rib area. They have a group of radiologist who read the films. I am going to ask to see them when I go there next. Thanks again for everyone lifting us up when we need a little help
