Our dog Gaby became a Tripawd (right front) on Oct. 25, 2011. She has had 2 rounds of Carboplatin and is doing well (we think). Just wondering what the protocol is for follow-up chest x-rays. She is scheduled for her 3rd round of chemo this Friday and we were thinking about getting x-rays done before the chemo to make sure nothing new has shown up. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We had xrays done 1/2 way through Abby's chemo (she did 6 rounds of carbo). The thinking was that if it wasn't working we might try another chemo drug.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Your oncologist would be the best person to advise you about when to do the x-rays. I didn't do IV chemo so I can't help you there, I'm sorry! You may want to check out this recent Tripawds News Blog Post about X-rays versus CT Scans though.
I'm super glad that she's doing well! Paws crossed for many hoppy times ahead!

Max did 6 rounds of carbo, x-rays were also done about 1/2 way through the treatments. We continued with metronomics after the carboplatin finished, and were put on a schedule of x-rays about every 2 months.
