I wanted to remind you Jill's oncologist will be on tripawd talk radio tomorrow if you want to call in or chat with her afterwards in the chat room about Shooter's new tumor.  She is so great and so knowledgeable and I have complete faith and trust in her, so might be worth seeing what she has to say!

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. GRRRR!  Dumb cancer.  It's awful!  I've got our paws and fingers crossed there's something you can do and can be confident in it.  It's possible Shooter can handle this, especially since he is doing so well!  Heck, a mile walk AND raising money?!  He can't be stopped!  Sending loads of HUGS and BELLY RUBS your way (the belly rubs are for Shooter....).  I'm so sorry to hear this, but vent away and be positive (I know you know how to do that SO well!).

~ Katy

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Still waiting to hear from the vet on our next battle plan. Other than that, Shooter is his same old self which keeps the rest of us calm for now. Since he has the MDR-1 gene he's my mutant and like Wolverine is indestructible (just ask him)!! I'm not very good at waiting so I'm sure I'll be calling the vet tomorrow afternoon.

I'll update when I know more.

Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.

Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.

Just (finally) got an update from the vet (she had to wait for all the experts to call her). Can you tell I am not the most patient person around when I want to take action?! The recommendation is CCNU/lomustine - 3 pills every 3 weeks. She is still waiting on the particulars as far as completing the Vinblastine treatment and continuing with the prednisone and at what dosage. Sounds like the cost is really not much different than the Vinblastine when you put it to paper ($108 every 3 weeks vs $35 every other week). Not too many dollars more. They will also provide some anti-nausea meds in case he needs them. I am glad they are not recommending surgery as I had already decided not to put him through that. Just glad I've got some kind of battle plan for now and since he tolerated the Vinblastine so well I'm hoping he will do the same with this.

I am so glad you have a battle plan again.  And it fits into the budget.  Now Shooter will know where to focus and we will know how to keep you all in our prayers even more.

Keep fighting Shooter

Thanks for the update. You know we all feel better right along with you when you can move forward with a plan. And it's a plan that others on the site have used and have had good results. So that's very including

Yeah, I doubt that there is anyone on the site who can master "patience" when challenges pop up. Guess that's one of the various "life lessons" on this journeyvut I think that's asking just a tad too much!!

So glad Shooter is still busy just being happy!! He's mastering the art of happiness very well:-) :-)

Keep on keeping on!!

Whew, it sounds like a great plan of action for all of you. How pawesome to have a vet who is so thorough and helpful!

You are in the same situation as Tulip, you'll be starting CCNU together, which I just noticed you already commented on. :)

Keep us posted on how it works for Shooter and in the meantime give him a big hug from us!

It's good to have a plan. I made the 'no more surgeries' decision for Maggie too. I'm really glad that you found an option that will work for you and Shooter, Mag was on a similar protocol.
I hope he handles the CCNU like he has everything else. When do you start?

I am guessing we will start next week as that would have been his next vinblastine treatment. The vet was going to order the drug this afternoon. Should have a definite day Thursday or Friday.
