Triton was brought to a public shelter without any litter mates or mother when he was 4 weeks old. He was placed with a foster mother that had two pups his age, and, luckily, she accepted him. I volunteer at a shelter that takes in animals from shelters that are about to be euthanized, and our shelter rescued Triton and his foster mom and siblings. We had no idea he was a purebred German Shepherd until he got old enough that his markings started to show. He was born with a malformed left front limb. His radius and ulna did not fuse. He had his surgery at the shelter on March 12. They left part of his humerus to protect his body wall . I took Triton home that day. He loves my two other dogs and is working through all of the growing pains of being a large breed without a front leg. He loves kids and loves the dog park. I am hopeful that he can become a therapy dog. He is an inspiration to everyone he meets and is 8 months old now.
Looks like a little guy who had a really bad start ended up in the best place possible. Thank you for helping this guy out. No doubt you will both be blessed for years to come.

Hello Triton and pack -
Â
Welcome to the family  (and the club no one wants to join)
Â
You are absolutely wonderful for taking Triton in and giving him a furever home....sounds like he is doing great...
Â
All of us here love pictures....so grab your camera so we can ohhhh and ahhhh!!
He is so handsome! I love your idea of teaching him to become a therapy dog. I have seen firsthand how much happiness visits from therapy dogs can bring to people in hospitals. They can make all the difference between a good day and a terrible one. And he will be inspirational to people with their own challenges to overcome. I look forward to hearing about all his training.  One thought - hospitals have very slippery floors. Do you think it would be wothwhile now to get him used to the idea of booties?
YES! Gotta see pics!
Â
I'm super partial to German Sheps AND especially leg birth defects! Had both! (not in the same dog)
Â
Bless you for getting Triton!

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us. Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.
Welcome to the family, kudos for taking Triton into your home, you will never regret it. Being so young I would think he will act as if he was only suppose to have three legs anyhow, plus no cancer, . Big Paws up to both of you, Spirit Gus and Dan
My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010
Welcome Triton and pack! So nice to get to welcome a new tripawd who is not here because of cancer. 🙂
Love the therapy idea. I'm sure he would be a huge inspiration to people.
Can't wait to hear more about his tripawd adventures!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman.
