Hey y’all! My name is Virginia Hays Sanders, I’m 21 Years Old, and I’m new to the Tripawd community! On September 25th, 2018 (last week) I was on HWY 27 near Holly Hill, South Carolina when I saw up ahead what looked to be a tire laying in the middle of the road, right on the yellow line. I went around it and quickly realized it was a DOG, once I saw that sweet pup look over his shoulder back at me, in able to move. I turned around as quick as I could and pulled over and picked him up from the middle of the road. He was bleeding pretty good, and extremely malnourished. I knew immediately that He was a Black & Tan Coonhound! Anyways, I put him on the backseat in the truck and hauled tail to the nearest vet. (On the way I named Him “Tritt”) after one of my favorite country artists, Travis Tritt. “It’s a great day to be alive!” The vet gave him a shot to help with the shock he was in. And some drops in his nose to stop the bleeding that was running down his throat and out his mouth. They told me his right front leg was broken but they did all they could do, so I drove another hour to Bamberg Veterinary Hospital, where the vet told me he wasn’t worried about the leg right now, because Tritt was suffering bad head trauma. So, they kept him for a couple days, did x-rays, and once he was stable, suggested amputation, since surgery would 100% cause bad arthritis. I made the decision, with Tritt’s recovery in mind, and chose to have the leg amputated. Today marks Day 4 being an amputee, and he is doing AMAZING!!! The main goal right now is getting some weight on my baby now! I’m so glad to have found the Tripawds Community, and look forward to meeting and talking with y’all! I made a Facebook page for Tritt, “Tritt’s Second Chance”. Please follow our journey! heart

Hello and welcome, your future posts will not have to wait for approval.

I love everything about your story...from the time you found him that is.  You are awesome for stopping, picking him up, and getting him care.  Unfortunately not everyone in this world is so caring.

How old do you think Tritt is?

You might want to look at the Reading List.  Lots of info there on what to expect with recovery.

This Shopping List has some ideas on stuff for the recovery period.

We would love to see some pictures of Tritt!  Here is how you add photos to the forums.

Any questions we can help with?

Hi! Nice to meet you smiley I’m on my iPhone, so I’m still trying to figure out how to navigate forums! I can’t figure out how to attach images! I read the link you posted, but it seems to be for desktops! Thanks for your help and support. I am so so happy to be a part of this page! The vet estimated Tritt to be not much older than a year old... but I think he may be under a year! I wish there was a way to know for sure, and maybe find out his bloodline since he looks to be full blooded Black and Tan Coonhound!

Virginia it's nice to see you here! I'm so glad you shared Tritt's story. He's such a lucky boy to find his way to you.

Adding images from a phone are the same as a desktop:

Once you have the photos uploaded somewhere online like Imgur or Facebook:

  • Copy the image file location, also known as the image URL.
  • Start your forum topic (add topic), or draft your topic reply (post reply).
  • Click the small Insert/Edit Image button that appears in your post editing tool bar (the small mountain & sun icon, 6th from right).
  • Paste the photo’s file location that you copied into the Image URL Field, and click insert.
  • The image will appear in your post.

Hope this helps!

Here are detailed instructions for adding photos to forum posts . If you don't already share photos online somewhere, you can start a free Tripawds blog any time and upload them there. Need further help? Post in the Tech Support forum and we'll be happy to help!

Links to Facebook pages also help. Please feel free to share on the Tripawds Facebook Page!
