Hi. I recently contacted an old friend of mine who works for USFWS on the Mexican Gray Wolf Recovery project (Canis lupus baileyi - a genetically distinct sub species of the north american gray wolf. this sub species is native to the SW US and northern central mexico.) I emailed her because i had remembered hearing something about a wolf with 3 legs surviving in the wild. It turns out there are FIVE! Three lost legs due to trapping accidents (2/3 were not USFWS traps-one was due to a trap malfunction). Two lost their legs due to gunshot wounds. Incredibly, one of these gunshot victims actually apparently chewed her rear leg off herself and survived! They trapped her by helicopter after the fact and she was missing her hind leg and also had an injury to a front lef from a trap but was still surviving in the wild. - amazing! The one wolf who was injured in a FWS project trrap malfunction was seen trying to take down a deer all by herself! there is one pack, the Middle Fork Pack, whose two alpha leaders, both male and female are tripaws wolves!

I thought that people here woudl appreciate this info! If a wild canid can learn to hunt again and raise pups and survive on three legs, then surely one can learn to catch frisbees again, right!
