Hey all! I don't know much about Gandalf the Grey but I just adopted him from the Houston SPCA yesterday. I found this site searching for info on tripod kitties.

I had 2 baby raccoons I was bottle feeding and I found a wildlife place that would take them so yesterday I drove down to Houston to deliver them. The wildlife place was RIGHT NEXT TO the Houston SPCA so I thought I'd just go in & take a look. You know the rest. LOL.

Gandalf the Grey was the name the SPCA had on his cage card & my son & I liked it so we're keeping it! He is about 7 weeks old & in his short life he's been treated for the swelling/infection in his front leg, IV'd numerous times, had the amputation, been neutered & microchipped, and been on a dozen medications! Despite that, when I met him in the "get acquainted" room, he had nothing but purrs for me!

He still has ugly stitches that are supposed to come out tomorrow. Right now he's segregated in my bedroom to get used to the house/us. He uses his litter box just fine so far and balances on his hind legs to bat at things! I don't have a good picture to post right now but I will soon. Thanks for this site!

Oh yay! So glad you adopted this sweetie, and joined our community too! Have you seen our community's Tri-kitty bloggers? We'd love to have you join in the fun!

Be sure to share some photos, we'd love to see what he looks like. And ask any questions, we're here to help.

Welcome to you and Gandolf the Grey. He is so lucky to have found you.

I suspect being so young that Gandolf had the amputation due to an accident or birth defect. Do you know the reason?

If his front leg was amputated he'll be able to jump up without any problem. Being so young any agile he may want to jump down from any height. You might want to start encouraging him to use boxes or steps to reduce the height he jumps from - this will help him reduce the stress on his front leg. If his rear leg was amputated than going down won't be an issue.

Looking forward to photos.
