Good luck to you and Shadow Friday! We are scheduled Monday for our 12 year old chocolate lab, Marley, to have her left hind leg amputated... just a few days behind you. (suspected osteosarcoma) I know exactly what you're feeling right now!!
let us know how it goes!

Update:
Shadow had his amputation surgery yesterday morning, and he is now back home resting. The surgeon said he did very well, no complications, and felt he was well enough to come home today! He's REALLY sedated still, and not as steady on his feet yet. We have to help him with the sling to get up and about to use the restroom. I think in his groggy state, he still hasnt figured out how to balance himself and is very clumsy in hopping around right now, I really hope this impoves as the sedatives and meds wear off. He's sleeping away, resting right now....will update more as the days progress!

Awww, that is great news that he made it through so well. Congratulations, you both did it! His recuperation sounds very textbook, even the grogginess. That is completely normal. I was pretty stumbly my first few days, especially on stairs, so be careful and keep an eye out with those if he uses any.
Let him get his rest, and try not to worry. Keep us posted!

We are so happy to hear that Shadow had no complications with his surgery. As Jerry says, he probably will be "stumbly" for a few days and it's best not to worry. Shadow will be just fine and you'll be amazed how quickly he recovers. You're doing all the right things.

Hiya Shadow...how are you doing pal? Hope that you're feeling OK...the first couple days are a little ruff...make sure that your mommy gets some rest too. Let us know how you're doing and tell your mom to let us know if she has any questions...we're crossing paws and fingers that the next couple weeks are uneventful.
Lots of best wishes and love,
