Well first, I'd like to thank everyone on this site. It helped me through the times of Bear's surgery on January '09.
Bear is a 9 year old golden retriever and has been extremely hyper and eager to please his whole life (not to mention very territorial, but lots of dogs are these things). He is big for a golden retriever, weighing in at about 80 pounds before his surgery. He is also very tough which comes from his want to please and he tries not to complain. He walked on his cancer leg for about 2 months before the surgery and only had a small limp.
After the surgery, the doctor said it would be about 6 months with chemotherapy before we'd have to let him go. Well, he was recovering well before he started doing chemo, which caused a reaction in his blood that caused his white blood cells to harm his red blood cells and almost killed him. After coming out of this heavy bout with chemo and stopping treatment (about 6 weeks after surgery), he finally was back to his old self. He was happy and much calmer, as though he was now much wiser of a dog, and very pleasant to be around.
I am proud to say that he takes no medication anymore for anything (partially for fear of reaction, and partially because he just doesn't need any of it) and that his surgery was in January of 2009. The doctor said he would live at maximum until June or July. It has been over a year since his surgery and he is doing great and continues to do things that he loves like play fetch, eat, and go on walks. He is my own personal dog of steel.

She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Sure sounds like he's made of steel to me! Bear seems to be one of the dogs that make liars out of the vets. (don't they all though?)
Just keep on doing what you are doing, it seems to be working for Bear.
Chuy, showing everyone that Tripawds do everything 3 times better than regular dogs!

Wow! Congratulations on over a year post amputation!!! 
Your Bear is definitely the man (I mean dog) of Steel!! Post some pictures of your super hero. We'd love to see!! Hope that Bear continues to do well, and make big fat liers out of his vets!

Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Thank you for sharing the wonderful and hopeful news about Bear!! I am sure that you love him and enjoy him every moment you have him. Give him a pat & hug from me, Paris was also a Jan '09 surgery, but we lost her on January 8th ….we have no regrets and loved every day we had with her.

Debra & Emily, a five year old doberman mix, who was diagnosed with an osteosaecoma. She had a right rear leg amputation on May 19, 2009. On November 10, 2009 she earned her wings and regained her fourth leg.

What a great story. I am so happy to hear Bear has done so well without chemo and meds. He is a remarkable example for us all.
