Iris is just adorable with her cone of shame .  Hopefully the staples will come out soon and she can kick that cone to the curb...winker!!

beesmom,

I agree, even though Iams is good there are still fillers. I just didn't want to adjust her appetite yet. We pick the ball back up with care at her normal vet on Sunday to pull staples if ready, but I'm perfectly content with them leaving the staples until ready, but just getting a checkup from her normal doc, and then we will get on a plan for diet. I want to make sure she has enough to build up the 3 legs without over bearing them.

Sounds like a good plan. I always allow a little time for adjustment to before changing foods. Except when my westie came home as a puppy. At the time we were feeding Honest Kitchen to our two and the breeder had our westie on Purina Puppy Chow. Of course, the breeder sent her home with some food but I couldn't stand the way it made her smell. It made my stomach retch...so I started the transition like day 2 of her in our home.

Hey folks,

So we went to the vet today and wow, what an event. The wound is healing great, so they pulled the staples, bought heartworm medicine and they weren't adamant about a heartworm test @6mos so neither was I, at this point in finances, I'll trust their judgement.

I know this is not the place to do it but I'm going to vent...

This lady had the nerve. She had 3 Chihuahua's barking like crazy at my tripawd with a cone on, and had the nerve to say "get ahold of your dog"

I understand the negative stigma against Pitbulls, and Iris ought to be an ambassador for the breed! She wanted to play with these 3 yappers but intimidated their owner.

So my reply to her was "You get ahold of yours! You do understand you're at the vet right"?

Oh boy did that start up a firestorm. Her husband came out from the chairs and grabbed Iris' by the collar and had it not been for the 3 or 4 vet techs that separated our dogs, this guy was about to get a full can of whoop ass!

They took Iris straight back to the exam room, and I think it was then that he saw she was a tripawd. I'm not even going to write what I said to him, but I'll just say at the end of it, we both knew who retained their man card.

Again I know this is not the place for venting, but it just irks me that a guy grabbed my pup by the collar when he should've been grabbing his own pups. Luckily for him I had stuff to do today that did not include cops or jail...

Oh Mike I'm really sorry that happened. It's crazy the kind of stuff you run into sometimes. I hope you'll consider joining the Majority Project, which aims to erase negative pitty stereotypes. Have you seen our blog post about it?

I'll bet Iris forgot about it the second after it happened. She's amazing! Glad the visit went well overall. Consider celebrating by starting a new topic for her in another Forum, you two have graduated from this one! :)

OMG...the nerve of people!!!  You have every right to be upset with the jerk and his wife...and venting here is fine.  We had a member here who posted about an incident at a groomers one time (can't remember the person though...aw-shucks).  She was there with her Tripawd and another customer came in making negative comments to her about amputating her fur kid's leg.  Thankfully the groomer kicked the narrow minded customer to the curb!!

Unfortunately for Iris and her breed this world is full of narrow minded people who will lump sweet Iris in with the stereotype they have in their mind.  That does not give somebody the right to manhandle your pup at a vet's office.  I'm just totally shocked at the nerve of people anymore.  Another member had posted an article that came out of Texas (Houston area I think) where a young pitbull was at a dog park playing with another dog.  According to witnesses the dogs were playing and there was no aggression.  However, the owner of the other dog took the site differently and just went up and shot and killed the pit.  I want to say he shot that poor dog 3 times.  According to the article no criminal charges were filed.

It's so sad that certain breeds get such a bad reputation and society just applies this reputation to each dog instead of looking at the dog as an individual.

PS...glad you didn't end up dealing with police or in jail...winker

WOW... well I won't / don't want to say what would have happened if someone had ever laid a FINGER on my tripawd (or non-tripawd)... you do NOT touch someone else's child - ever!!!!

Glad Iris is doing better and had a good visit!

Hugs!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

I can't believe he touched her!!! OMG, I would have died on the spot.

I did once have a lady tell me that she was going to kick my little Chihuahua because Daisy was disturbing her "sunbathing" She had actually laid down her towel in the the middle of an off-leash dog park to sunbathe and then got mad because dogs were running near her.....I just responded with a "not if you know what's good for you" and possibly a few words about what a moron she was. She left PDQ blush
