Hello,
Although I have never blogged, I am finding comfort in the clogs that I have read. Sadly our
standard beloved Lucy will be having her front leg amputated due to osteosarcoma. She had a biopsy today but the xray is hard to dismiss the evidence of missing bone and the lesion. I have watched YouTube videos of three legged dogs and have been amazed at how the dogs seem to not know that they have a limb missing in their activity. You information on recovery and activity have helped to aid me as to my expectations. Thanks so much. I will visit often in the next week as my Lucy waits for her biopsy results.

Hello and welcome to Tripawds, your future posts will not require moderation.
I hope you don't mind that I moved your post to it's own topic- I didn't want Lucy's story to get lost in the other thread.
If you haven't already you should read through Jerry's Required Reading List or download the ebook Three Legs and a Spare. Lots of good information from this site on what to expect with amputation, recovery, and treatment if you choose that route.
I know how overwhelming and scary the cancer diagnosis is- and waiting for test results can be excruciating! It is sad that Lucy has been diagnosed with osteosarcoma, but the good thing about amputation is that it relieves the terrible pain of bone cancer. And you are giving your girl a chance at a pain free life. Around here we usually talk about quality of life, not so much quantity. But many here have outlived their prognosis. I know two pups in particular here, both front amps due to OSA, who are more than 3 years out from surgery! Who knows what will happen- but there is always hope.
Keep us posted on the test results and the surgery schedule. Ask whatever questions you have- being prepared makes the recovery process a bit easier.

Hi Lucy and family, welcome. I'm sorry to hear about your news, we know it's upsetting and stressful for everyone. I hope that these stories of osteo survivors here will give you the hope you need to be a strong pack leader and show Lucy that you can get through this together, and come out stronger and smarter because of it. I'm going to bet that Lucy will rock your world when you see how well she bounces back.
We're here to help however we can. Please keep us posted and tell us how she's doing. If you have any questions or are just worried and want to vent, that's what we're here for.
