Okay...deep breaths...really...take some deep breaths.....B R E A T H E.....B R E A T H E.......
Buddy is JUST nine days post op from a MAJOR surgery. Panting at this point is almost certainly due to either pain...or pain meds! Also, adjusting to three legs and getting around onn three legs takes a lot more energy and could indeed cause panting and more rapid breathing.
And everyonenhere can tell you we become obsessed with breathing patterns, a cough, a hiccup, etc! Then as wp we settle down I n to our new normal we aren't wuite as bat crazy about every little thing and we just get on with enjoying the moment...just like Buddy is already doing!! He's not worried about a thing! He's eating, drinking and soaking up allmof the loving and spoiling he can get.....and clesrly that's alot!!!!
As Jerry said, there really is no need to have any further tests at this point, other than if you want to do lung xrays for your own peace of mind. Also, as far as worrying about the amountnof time that passed after the fracture before diagnosis....many, many dogs are incorrectly treated for arthristis, or sprains, or muscle pulls, off and on for months before a disgnosis.
For now, just focus on getting Buddy through recovery...it's still very early. And then maybe next week you can revisit the great links on the site ab o ut chemo, metronomics , etc. Most dogs do very well m on chemo (carboplatine). Some tire easilynfor a day or two...some do not. Some show a bit of nausea for a daymor two butnthey give you pills )cerinia) for them should that happen. On occasion, some have had to stop treatment due to bad reactions and the dogs recovered very well once treatment stopped...rare, but itt does happen.
Okay our friend, hang in there! You are doingngreat...and so is Buddy!!! We are right here by your side and we are al l your new family!!! Scary group we are!!!
Wrapping you up in hugs!

I am really concerned about his breathing. He pants a lot and breathing seems to be faster than normal.
Tramadol and pain can do that. While it's not unusual, I would let your vet know so you can work with them to adjust the medication. Hope that he's feeling better today!

Hi Carol,
Welcome to the best pet cancer support community ever...... I am just catching up with your forum posts and although I can't add anything to the already fantastic advice you have already been given, I do want to add my support to you and Buddy. My precious Tripawd was also a Lab, yellow 9 year old Polly, and we dealt with hemangiosarcoma, which I read you are quite familiar with as well. The "ugly c" sucks.......but there have been many, many successful journeys here in fighting this crappy disease. It sounds like Buddy is doing fairly well so far after his surgery and that is great. Hope his healing continues to go very well.
The one thing I did want to mention, you asked about chemo and the effects on our pups.......my Polly was one of very few, but had an extremely difficult time with chemo. However, once we got her terrible side effects under control, we were able to completely finish all her rounds of chemo. I do have to say that most do quite well with chemo, my Polly was just a medical enigma in every way, shape, and form, from her younger days and on.
Best wishes to you and Buddy as you start your own journey, and please keep us all updated on his progress.
Sending positive thoughts to you both,
Bonnie & Angel Polly
Has anyone had any success with K9 supplements? I have ordered him some. I can't afford the apocaps though

Has anyone had any success with K9 supplements?
We used K9 Immunity with Jerry and believe it helped contribute to his 2-year survival.
We actually just had an interview with the manufacturer on Tripawd Talk Radio :

..... can I stop worrying now?
Not if you are like most of us
The cancer journey is full of worries, but getting to the point of not worrying is part of us learning to 'Be More Dog '.
You got great news today, Buddy is feeling good, life is good!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
GREAT NEWS!!! I now know that was not a windstorm that just passed through here.....it was your sigh of relieff!!
YES! Yiu can stop worrying and just enjoy the bliss of being in the moment with Buddy!!
I used K9 Immunity Plus "treats" and Happy Hannah loved them. Can I PROVE they were beneficial? No. Do I BELIEVE they helped keep her energy up and enhanced her immune system? Yes!

Will the osteosarcoma still metatasize after the leg has been amputated?
OSA is an aggressive cancer. "Micromets" (undetectable by scans) are usually present in the lungs at the time of most diagnoses. But every dog is different! It may never return in some, and metastasize quickly in others.
Jerry survived 2 years without IV chemotherapy. We only started him on metronomics after his lung mets showed up, around 14± months post-amp.

Do you nave an Oncologist you could consult with?
Carbollatin is generally the chmo used for osteo and most like to get it started two to three weeks after amp. Sometimes surgery complications make it hard to start that soon sometimes it can be started later. But you really need to have a consult.
There are no guarantees either way. As you can see,Merry did very well without it! Some do not......some seem to get extended time with it...some do not. We call it a crap shoot around here.! No right or wrong when it comes to checmo. And do not waste ine moment second guessing yourself! That interferes with your time with Buddy! Let. nothing rob you of your time together!!! Buddy knows you love him and he's thrilled to have that bum leg gone!!
I'm really glad to n hear Buddy is doing well and all tests look great!!! Buddy is enjoying life and soaking up the loving and spoiling....and that's what it's all about!!!
Take lots of pictures and videos of your sweet Buddy! We'd love to see some!!HUGS!!!

I haven't taken Buddy to an oncologist because I can't afford it. I am retired and in a fixed income and have 7 other dogs. I am strugging just to pay the vet for his surgeries. I guess I will know something is wrong if he starts having rapid breathing or struggles to breathe. I pray to God, that never happens.
