Hi Tripawd Community,

My 8-year-old pup, Libby, is a recent tripawd. She had a rear leg amputation on August 16 due to mast cell cancer. She's doing amazing! Our vet sent her home with me that evening because he feels dogs recover best at home. The first night was rough, but each day got a little bit better. One week post-surgery and she's walking, eating, going down stairs, wagging her tail, and very much back to her sweet self.

(BTW, much credit is due to this amazing community, who supported me each step of the way.)

Fortunately, the cancer did not spread to the lymph nodes. Preliminarily, the pathologist believes Libby's cancer was stage 2, grade 2. We'll get final results this week. (Please, please, please let it be grade 2 ... I can handle grade 2.)

Now that Libby is adjusting to her new life as a tripawd, I'm beginning to look at activities, sports and extracurriculars that can keep a tripawd happy, confident and busy. When Libby was a bit younger, she competed in agility and earned an AKC title in hunting. (The doctor credits her athleticism with the quick recovery and adjustment to three legs.)

We would love to do therapy work and get involved in organizations who give back to the community. Does anyone have a recommendation/experience with therapy work? Is there a specific nonprofit who appreciates tripawds?

Aside from therapy work, does anyone have recommendations for other types of training classes that help boost confidence and encourage rehab for a tripawd?

Thank you so much!

Hallie & Libby

The best regimen is one prescribed by a certified rehab vet, but you will find plenty of professional tips, how-to videos, and helpful information about strengthening and ongoing exercise in Loving Life On Three Legs, now available in The Tripawds Library.

Jerry received his certification through Therapy Dogs International. Shelby's people have written about her work as a therapy dog in Shelby's blog. You may find others by searching the blogs.

Really glad to hear Libby is doing so well!

"love how you want to be interactive in your community while using Libby as a good will ambassador for all tripawds.

If you search the site for Maggie the Cow Dog and Tracey, you'll find that sweet Spitir Maggie did some form of agility even after amputatin and i to her senior years!

Best of luck to you in your endeavour s and please keep us posted on Toby's continued success!
