Hi Everybody -
I just wanted to check in with an update on my girl Mara. She is doing absolutely awesome! Next week we have round 4 of her chemo treatments, and she is handling those pretty well on the whole. She definitely needs her 3 days worth of Cerenia afterward and some encouragement to eat. Otherwise she is doing so well! Loving her walks and life in general. We still are struggling with some sores on the right rear foot (opposite of the left front leg that was removed), but we are using a boot on walks and that seems to help. And the sores aren't growing or infected. She just needs to build up some callouses which is hard to do in all the snow that is still here. This weekend we are probably going for our first Canine Massage since surgery, and on April 8, we are going to the chiropractor just to make sure everything is okay with our back and neck. I am still waiting to see if she qualifies for the Penn State osteosarcoma vaccine, but if she is, we are going there in the middle of June. Next Monday will be Mara's 6th birthday!!!! A birthday she definitely would not have seen, if I hadn't decided to make the decision to let her have a go at being a tripawd. I'm so glad I did!
Congratulations Beth & Mara! She looks wonderful. She's off to a great start! I look forward to more updates.
Amy & Spirit Libby
Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13. Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14. She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self. Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14
This is WONDERFUL news! Yipeee! We're so glad you came back to let us know, what an inspawration.
We'll look forward to hearing all about the holistic aspect of her care. If you ever feel like writing a guest blog post about it, don't be shy, we'd love to share it with the community in one of our Featured blogs

Thanks everybody, for all you support once again! I am still quite humbled by what a trooper Mara has been with this whole thing.
There was this really interesting experience that happened to me. I was visiting the hospital with one of my other Irish Wolfhounds who is a therapy dog, and a lady visiting one of the patients said she was an animal communicator. She actually picked up on Mara's thoughts/feelings - that she was depressed at first but then realized her amputation was necessary. And she was happy now just that she got some more time with me. I don't know how much I believe in it all, but it made me cry anyway. And I would tend to think there might be something to it just how she seems to try to prove that she can do anything she did before.
I did make a blog of sorts on my own website, and I hope that is okay to share here - it's not an ad or anything. I just found it was easier to put in on my website, because I know how to do it super easy and fast (and I don't have much spare time with all the dogs and work) - http://www.tres.....rcoma.html
Beth & Mara
Beth, I'm a total believer in animal communicators, especially after meeting Stacy K. She's been on our Tripawd Talk Radio and boy she could tell you things that nobody else would know about except you. Amazing! She will be on again later this year.
Your Wolfie pack is just GORGEOUS and you did a great job sharing Mara's story over there (although I flinched a little when I saw the amp surgery photos!). Wow. What a strong, amazing pack you have there. And thank you so much for the kind words about our community, and for purchasing a harness here too, that means so much!
Reading about Mara's journey reminds me so much of sweet Finnegan, the first Wolfie we ever met. He was such an amazing dog, a true survivor and a gentle giant. You can read about his osteo battle here, his beautiful life will make you smile.
Hugs to you, Mara & the pack. Keep us posted OK? We're cheering you on!

Beth,
Mara is such a pretty girl. And your whole pack ... all very pretty. Mara has such a sweet soulful face. I know the Irish Wolfhounds do have that kinda look, but she really does look so sweet. I'm glad things are going well with the recovery. You guys keep up the great work.
Karma, Adelaide and the crew, and our forever angel Brendol
Adelaide is a young tripawd Husky, from an injury. Her amp was on 10/1/12. She has 4 sisters, Aissa (a senior border collie/chow), Maggie May (a puppy Great Pyrenees), Mathilde and Morrigan and 1 baby brother, Bagheera. We are all watched over by our angel Brendol, who was dx with OSA 1/30/13, amp on 2/6/13, and left us on 8/20/13.
You can read their stories at http://adelaide.tripawds.com and http://brendol.tripawds.com
Your dog is certainly lucky to have you . She looks so good and I am glad things are going well. Cancer is such a horrible disease. Would you be interested in helping with research into osteosarcoma? It is only a cheek swab and Irish Wolfhounds are needed that have osteosarcoma. Please consider helping as I am passionate about getting answers to this disease so dogs in the future are not facing it as much as they are now.

Sally and Happy Hannah
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
I added this below picture to the "Size and Age Does Matter" Forum as well. Mara celebrated her 6th birthday last Monday!!! She had a canine massage the day before and a chiropractic adjustment on Tuesday. We now have some rehab exercises for her, too. She continues to amaze me each and every day!
Oh that is a look of pure joy that we should all do our best to emulate each and every day!
Hoppy Birthday Mara! You keep on rockin this world, what an inspawration.
