Hi,
I adopted John Wayne, an Australian Cattle Dog, from the Bozeman, Montana Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter, on December 29. We are now back in Portland, with plans to spend some time in the snow, snowshoeing with friends, and hiking some trails (we both LOVE snow). I have been researching GPS devices, one of which goes on the dog's collar, and the other I would carry, given that snow drifts, deep wells around the base of trees, etc. are possible, and I don't want anything to happen to John Wayne. So far, I have found a Garmin device, the Astro...it has ok reviews, but Garmin's customer service stinks, as I have found in many other inquiries from them. The hunting folks like this device for finding their dogs who have located fowl. Does anyone in this forum use a GPS with their dog, and if so, would you please share your experiences and brand/model information? Thanks very much. PeeWee and John Wayne!
John Wayne – Three Legged Australian Cattle Dog
Hey PeeWee and John Wayne,
Congratulations on forming your new pack! Thanks for adopting a Tripawd too.
A GPS sounds cool, especially if you think he can get away pretty fast. We've never used one but I'll bet there's someone here who has. Hopefully they'll have an answer.
Have fun playing in the snow, that was one of my favorite things to do!
