Storm's wrist on his remaining front leg appears to be over flexing giving him a bouncing motion. The vet did mention that this could be a problem when I picked him up after surgery and suggested that if it didn't improve that I looked at carpal supports for him (most are prescription only). I obviously don't want him to damage his leg and am happy to get him a support. Has anyone else had any experience with them?
Watch our video interviews with Orthopets about the benefits of braces for Tripawds, and consider consulting with them directly at orthopets.com.
PROM (Passive Range of Motion), weight bearing and balance exercises, and stretching can also help! See Loving Life On Three Legs , or search the blogs for lots of yips an how-to videos.

Nitro sees a chiropractic vet, and she's very careful to make sure his remaining front wrist stays healthy and in good shape. She has shown me exercises and massage techniques to help make this possible. I am super paranoid of him hurting his other front leg, so I know where you're coming from.

Nitro 11 1/2 yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms. Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

I had to get a custom made brace for Nixon right around 22 months post amp. We also did lots of PROM and at home physical therapy. One of the things Nixon was encouraged to do was to dig. Putting treats on his bed with a towel or blanket on them to get him to dig. Putting more blankets on his bed than necessary. And of course, taking him to a sandy area so he could just be a dog and dig. Treats in the ground can be used to encourage this. The other exercise he hated but he obliged.
With the dog lying down, put tape on the muzzle or nose/a scrunchie to the nose (or something similar)- encourage the pawing motion with his front leg, this will encourage flexion of the carpus.
You only need to do this for a few reps twice a day. You can work up to more but you'd be amazed at how little is required to make a big impact.
Ingrid, the way Nixon's legacy continues on through you in such a lfe affirming way is just beautiful. You always have such I credible tips ro offer that you and your boy used.
Sending love to you and pack
