Hi all.

It's been a week since Junior's surgery. He is really good. From the first day he walks by himself and has eaten very well.

Junior is a Lab mix and he is about six month old.

I have read a lot about the different supplements they recommend on different blogs (especially Cosequin, Dasuquin, fish oil and flax seed oil) and I have a lot of questions that I hope you can help me solve:

1.When is the right time to start with supplements for Junior? Is there a specific age to start with supplements?

2. What is the difference between Cosequin and Dasuquin? Are differents or there are the same supplement?

Thanks for all.

Have you checked the Tripawds Nutrition blog yet?

You will find detailed reviews for Cosequin and Dasuquin, both are made by the same manufacturer, but they are different.

We have spoken with certified canine rehab techs (CCRT or CCRP ) who have suggested not giving joint supplementation until symptoms present, at the risk of the dog building up a resistance. Others recommend giving joint supplements right away (depending upon age), all agree on the benefits of starting with high grade Omega 3 fish oil.

Watch Part 1 of our video interview with Dr Deurr from CSU for more info about supplements. And please consider seeing a rehab vet for a professional evaluation and the best recommendations for Junior, since every dog is different. The Tripawds Foundation may even reimburse you for your first visit from the Maggie Moo Fund for Tripawd Rehab.

Otis was on Dasaquin and fish oil for his arthritis, and Tess was placed on them as well after her cruciate repair.  I swear by these supplements - Otis went from not being able to walk one day to several years (and 6 months as a tripawd) without major arthritis symptoms.  Gator is taking them as well - my vet puts the large dogs on them to protect their joints when they become seniors at age 6.

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.
